First spotted in Spain and then in the UK, the upcoming Royal Enfield flagship cafe racer has been spied in India for the first time. A video spread over social media shows the upcoming motorcycle that looks much identical to its Continental GT motorcycle but gets twin exhausts and a temporary licence plate of Tamil Nadu. It clearly indicates that the company has started testing this bigger version of the bike, which might be called the Continental GT 750, for the Indian riding conditions and it could be launched in India in the near future.
Though we can only see the rear section of the motorcycle in the video, we have a lot of information to tell you from the previous spy pictures. First of all, the 750cc Continental GT will be powered by a parallel twin motor, like Triumph's ‘Modern Classic’ range. However, this new motor will be air-cooled and get an oil-cooler for enhanced cooling. It will help the company to produce this two-cylinder engine at a much lower budget. So, this upcoming RE could be the most affordable product in its segment. The bigger motor is expected to produce around 50PS of power, which is significantly higher than the 29PS of the existing 535cc model.
As per the reports, the Continental GT 750 will run on 17" wheels instead of the regular 18" set used by RE, and will get wider tyres as well. The disc brakes will also be bigger, providing it with more stopping power to compensate for increased weight and power output. While the frame looks a like a subtly tweaked version of the one used in the existing model, other cycle parts, such as front and rear suspensions, look quite different. The overall design inspiration also comes from the existing version; in fact, the fuel tank seems almost identical.
We can expect Royal Enfield to unveil the new Continental GT 750 at the EICMA show this year as the bike is speculated to enter the market sometime next year. Once launched, this flagship RE could give a tough challenge to products like the Triumph Bonneville range and the entry-level Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Moreover, we can also expect some more products from Royal Enfield to use this 750cc motor in the coming years.
