Nissan India unveiled its new Nissan Intelligent Mobility initiative today, in an attempt to bring the concept of connected cars to India, at the Renault Nissan Technology Business Centre in Chennai. The launch of the Connected Car app, according to Arun Malhotra, MD, Nissan Motor India, is the first step towards that goal.
The Connected Car app is now available on all Nissan models like the Micra, Terrano and the Sunny, but on the middle to top variants only. And for the new cars, it will come at no extra cost, as of now. Older Nissan owners will also be able to get the system retrofitted in the near future, possibly at an additional cost.

The Connected Car app is connected to a factory fitted telematics control unit inside the car, which transmits data to a unified server, which in turn interacts with the application on the owner’s phone. It boasts of features like the ability to track the location of your Nissan car at all times. The owner can also set a said speed limit on his/her car and in case someone else, say a family member, is driving it, the owner will be notified via a voice message and an SMS alert if they go over the speed limit.
The app also comes with Geo Fencing which allows owners to define a set distance for the car. If the car ventures beyond the specified distance, the owner will be notified. For example, the owner’s daily commute is 10km away, he/she can set a radius of 10km from their residence and if the car breaches that perimeter, the owner will instantly receive an alert. It can also be used to send the car’s location. The curfew function on the app allows you to set the time of the day beyond which you don’t want the car to run. The owner is notified the moment the car is started or if someone is moving with it. This also allows owners to track the movements of their chauffeur.

The Connected Car app also informs you about how the car fares in terms of fuel efficiency and analyses multiple trips in order to provide tips on how you can extract better fuel efficiency from your Nissan car. It can even help guide owners to the nearest fuel station when the fuel starts to run low.
Nissan says that it will continue to update its app and continuously bring in new features for its customers. It, however, has clarified that the app won’t be made available with Datsun cars.
