The India-spec ZS EV will make its official debut on December 5

  • It was recently launched in Australia at a price tag of AUD 46,990, which equates to Rs 23 lakh (approx. on-road).
  • Will be powered by an electric motor delivering 150PS and 350Nm with a claimed range of 428km.
  • Exterior highlights include MG’s chrome-studded grille, dual-tone alloy wheels, LED taillamps and bumper-mounted rear fog lamps.
  • Key interior equipment includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted controls and multi-info display.
  • Will rival the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric once launched in India.

MG Motor India has been hard at work preparing to bring its second model for India, the ZS EV all-electric SUV. The carmaker has earlier announced that Benedict Cumberbatch will be the brand ambassador for the all-electric offering. And now, a teaser video for the SUV featuring Benedict Cumberbatch has been revealed. The theme? #ChangeWhatYouCan. MG Motor India will officially unveil the ZS EV on December 5 and has already set up charging stations at major cities across the country. Morris Garages (MG) recently launched the ZS EV in Australia, at the equivalent of Rs 23 lakh. It's closest rival, the Hyundai Kona EV, is priced at Rs 23.72 lakh (Ex-India) here. We expect the ZS EV to come in at a similar price point in India.

The ZS EV for India has already been spied undisguised and fortunately, it looks similar to the international model. Exterior highlights include MG’s chrome-studded grille that merges with the projector headlamps. Other bits like dual-tone alloy wheels, LED tail lamps and bumper-mounted rear fog lamps round off the exterior of the SUV.

Key interior kit consists of an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a single-zone climate control, cruise control, keyless entry with push-button start, steering-mounted audio controls as well as a multi-info display. Expect the i-SMART connected car tech to be present in the ZS EV as well.

Under the hood of the ZS EV will be an all-electric motor producing 150PS and 350Nm. It has a NEDC claimed range of 428km out of a 45.2kWH battery pack with fast charging capabilities from  0-80 per cent in 30 minutes. The Australia-spec ZS EV also comes with a standard 7-year/1,60,000km warranty on its battery pack.

The ZS SUV is also available in an ICE trim with two petrol engines. 1.0-litre turbo-petrol hybrid engine developing 111PS and 160Nm, and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 106PS and 141Nm round off the ICE options. It’s likely we could see both these options at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020.

Post its December 5 showcase, the MG ZS EV will be launched at the Auto Expo 2020. Primary rivals include the Hyundai Kona Electric
