The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door, sold as the Jimny XL in Australia, has hit a temporary roadblock. Suzuki Australia has paused deliveries due to an issue with stockyard units, though the exact reason hasn’t been shared yet. Dealerships have even been asked to refund bookings where needed. Interestingly, sales of the Jimny XL had already been put on hold last month. While the root cause is still unclear, Suzuki officials have confirmed that it’s not a safety concern, so existing owners can keep enjoying their SUVs without worry.
On the outside, the Jimny 5-door in India and the Jimny XL in Australia. The only difference? The colour choices vary a bit between the two markets.

Step inside, and again, the overall cabin feel is the same: simple and functional. In Australia, though, the Jimny XL is sold in a single fully-loaded trim with touches like leatherette upholstery, while the India-spec model (Zeta and Alpha) keeps it more straightforward.

Both versions are fairly well kitted out. Expect a 9-inch touchscreen, manual dials for the AC, power windows, keyless entry, auto AC, and headlamp washers. Safety, however, is where the big difference lies.
In India, the Jimny packs the basics with six airbags, ESP, hill hold assist, and ISOFIX mounts. The Australian version gets more tech-heavy with a proper ADAS suite.
Under the hood, both SUVs share the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. In India, it puts out 105 PS and 134 Nm, while in Australia, the numbers are slightly lower at 102 PS and 130 Nm. Transmission choices stay the same across markets - a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic and yes, you still get Suzuki’s 4-wheel drive system as standard.

In India, the Jimny 5-door is priced between Rs 12.76 lakh and Rs 14.96 lakh (ex-showroom). That puts it right up against rivals like the Mahindra Thar, Mahindra Thar Roxx, and Force Gurkha (3-door and 5-door).

The Jimny may not pack the muscle of a Thar or Gurkha, but that’s never been its game. It’s the cute little mountain goat that’ll climb anywhere and squeeze through gaps the big boys can’t. The pause in Australia looks more like a hiccup than a big setback, but it does remind us that global rollouts for niche models aren’t always smooth.
