KTM has gained a name for itself by offering power-packed machines at extremely aggressive prices. It was only recently that the Austrian manufacturer launched the 2017 editions of its naked range (Duke) and the sports range (RC) in India. We were also introduced to a new entrant, the Duke 250, which was a welcome addition to the lot. Surprisingly, though, the 250cc motor wasn’t on offer in the RC range, but we were hopeful that it would eventually make its way to India on the sports range as well.
So, for those who have been wishing for an RC 250, seems like your prayers will soon be answered as the said bike has recently been spotted testing in a production-ready state. This is affirmed by the fact that there is no camouflage hiding the bike’s identity. The motorcycle was spotted on the old Pune-Mumbai highway, which is Bajaj and KTM’s usual testing ground off the track.
As far as styling is concerned, it stays true to the RC design lines, with the only a change being the colour scheme that sets it apart from its siblings.
The RC 250 will carry the same powertrain that powers the Duke 250, which is a 248.8cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine. Peak power of 31.3PS and peak torque of 24 Nm is transmitted to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox.
Like its naked sibling, the RC 250 is also expected to miss out on the ride-by-wire tech and a slipper clutch. That said, a close look at the spy shot confirms that the new model will get the safety net of ABS.
The company hasn’t confirmed the launch dates for the upcoming product yet. But once launched, we expect the KTM RC 250 to be priced around Rs 2.1 lakh. It will go up against the upcoming TVS Akula, which even though is powered by BMW’s 300cc powerplant, generates similar power and torque.
