350cc KTM 390 Adventure: 3 Things We Like & 2 Things We Don’t

To tackle the tax norms which GST 2.0 brought in, KTM launched the 350cc 390 Adventure. With nearly identical looks, the same chassis, features, and touring-focused hardware. The biggest change lies under the tank, where the new 349cc engine replaces the older 399cc unit. After riding it across city roads, highways, and rough sections, here are three things we liked and two things we didn’t:
3 Things We Like
1. Still Feels Like a Proper KTM ADV
The biggest positive is that the motorcycle still retains its core KTM adventure-bike character. The sharp styling, tall stance, and rally-inspired design continue to give it strong road presence. More importantly, the chassis remains excellent. The bike feels agile in the city, planted on highways, and capable enough on rough roads and mild trails.

2. Feature-Rich and Touring Friendly
KTM hasn’t cut corners on equipment. You still get cornering ABS, traction control, cruise control, riding modes, a TFT console, smartphone connectivity, and a bi-directional quickshifter. Combined with comfortable ergonomics and long-travel suspension, the motorcycle remains a genuinely capable tourer.

3. Smoother and More Efficient Engine
The new 349cc engine feels noticeably more refined than the older motor. Vibrations are better controlled, especially at highway speeds, and the calmer throttle response makes the bike easier to ride daily. Fuel efficiency has also improved, with the motorcycle capable of delivering close to 30kmpl in real-world conditions.

2 Things We Don’t
1. Performance Feels Less Exciting
The smaller engine has lost the explosive midrange punch of the older 399cc setup. Quick overtakes now require more planning and occasional downshifts, especially on highways. Enthusiastic riders will definitely notice the calmer nature of this engine.

2. Brakes Could Have Been Better
Braking performance is strong overall, but KTM could have offered sintered brake pads as standard. It would have improved bite and consistency during aggressive riding and loaded touring situations.

Verdict
The 350cc KTM 390 Adventure feels like a smart response to changing market conditions. It may not be as wild as the older bike, but it still offers a premium, feature-packed, and genuinely capable ADV experience at a much more accessible price point.
