Hyundai Santro BS6 To Launch Soon, Details Revealed

Every other carmaker in the country is busy updating their lineup to comply with the upcoming BS6 emission norms. Hyundai is also one of them and the recently unveiled Aura sedan is its latest offering with a BS6 powertrain option. Hyundai will also be updating its Santro lineup with a launch over the coming months. What we have here are the engine details of the BS6 Santro along with the list of variants.

The Santro’s existing 1.1-litre petrol engine will be updated to comply with the BS6 emission norms. According to the transport circular, the engine produces the same amount of power at 69PS while the torque is also expected to be the same (99Nm). Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and AMT. 

The Santro is currently offered in Era Executive, Magna, Sportz and Asta. The updated Santro with the BS6 powertrain will also be offered in the same basic trim options. The current-gen Santro was launched in India on October 23, 2018. After a brief gap, in July 2019, Hyundai updated the Santro lineup and introduced a new base variant.

Some of the standout features in the Santro include a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a reverse camera, rear AC vents, as well as steering-mounted audio controls. Safety features on offer include rear parking camera, driver and passenger airbag, front seatbelt pretensioners, ABS with EBD, and load limiters.

Currently, the Santro is priced from Rs 4.29 lakh to Rs 5.78 lakh (ex-showroom). Competition for the Santro comes in the form of Tata Tiago and the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. The BS6-compliant Santro is expected to launch in the coming months and is likely to carry a premium of Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. In other news, the new i20 which was spied testing, will not sadly make its debut at the Auto Expo 2020.
