Isle of Man TT star, Guy Martin has announced that he will participate in the 2014 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC). Despite not winning the IOMTT race even once, the Scottish rider is hugely popular owing to the documentary “TT3D: Closer to the edge” and is regarded as one of the fastest rider on the Mountain Course to have never won. This announcement doesn’t come as a surprise, as the organisers of the PPIHC have been trying hard to pursue TT riders to join the road course so as to enhance the popularity of the historic American race. The 32-year-old racer will take part in the 92nd edition of the race aboard a 1992 Suzuki GSX-R1100 equipped with a Martek frame and turbocharger for added performance. The bike has been built by the Scottish rider himself.
His target for this year’s race is to surpass Carlin Dunne’s outright two-wheeler record of nine minutes and 52.819seconds. This record time was set by Dunne on a Ducati Multistrada 1200 in 2012. This race will be particularly challenging for the Scottish rider as Carlin Dunne and Greg Tracy have won the previous races within a time frame of 10 minutes. But Martin seems to be high on hopes to win this year's race as he has just the right machine to do so. Reportedly the 32-year-old’s bike churns out 330PS of power with a turbocharger, and this figure is expected to swell over 500PS with the use of a nitrous system. Only time will predict if Martin will succeed in breaking this record, but we are sure that this year’s race will turn out to be an exciting one.
