TVS has quite a versatile product portfolio today, spanning everything from scooters to commuters to sportsbikes, electric to combustion, and more. But one offering that it doesn’t have at the moment is a 125cc commuter bike. That could be about to change soon, though, because it has just trademarked the name “Fiero 125.”

Of course, it’s only right now that TVS doesn’t have a 125cc commuter in its lineup; it has had multiple models on sale in the segment in the past. In fact, the erstwhile Flame 125’s 3-valve motor formed the basis for the 124.8cc single-cylinder mill that currently powers the NTorq scooter. And this is the engine that we expect to be re-tuned and plonked into a commuter motorcycle to form (perhaps) the Fiero 125.
“Fiero” isn’t a new name for TVS, of course. It used to be the name of a 150cc launched way back in 2000, when TVS and Suzuki were still partners. The familiarity of the moniker should help win favour among buyers when TVS re-enters the segment to take on the likes of the Hero Glamour and Honda Shine. We expect the Fiero 125 to break cover in the middle of next year, at a price of around Rs 70,000 to 75,000.
