Used by MotoGP riders on a regular basis, these bikes are thoroughbred track tools

  • Ohvale India has set their headquarters in Rajasthan.

  • The first showroom is expected to open up in Bengaluru.

  • The company’s India lineup will include five models -- Ohvale 0 190, 160, 110, 110 Automatic and GP-2.

  • Ask anyone who has ridden a mini bike, and they’ll tell you how potent and fun a machine it is. It’s basically a bike you can throw around on a go-kart track, scrape your knee, elbow, and even your head, with little to no concern (at least as compared to a full-sized bike). Sadly, in India, the closest thing we ever got (legally) to a mini bike was the Honda Navi. A bummer, right?

Fret not; the Italian brand Ohvale is setting foot in India soon. According to sources, the brand plans to launch five bikes here in May 2021, including the Ohvale GP-0 190, 160, 110, 110 Automatic, and GP-2 190 -- the suffixes suggesting their cubic capacities. Prices are expected to start from around Rs 4.5 lakh going up to Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom). Now, that’s big money for a mini bike, but believe us, the Ohvales come very close to justifying these prices. Allow us to explain.

Firstly, these mini bikes are fully track-ready. They’ve been made for one purpose, and that’s to set a track on fire (or at least a go-kart track). The fibreglass bodywork with swanky graphics comes standard on all the bikes. They ride on 10-inch wheels shod with custom-made sticky track tyres.

There isn’t much to talk about its features, considering the bikes focus on weight reduction and track riding. They miss out on lights, indicators, an instrument cluster, and ABS, making them tip the scales at under 80 kilos (kerb). That said, they get adjustable rear-set footpegs, three-spoke alloys, and adjustable levers. Other bits include braided brake lines, disc brakes at both ends, and sintered brake pads.

Wondering if you’d fit on an Ohvale? Multiple MotoGP riders, including Scott Redding, Alex Rins, and Danillo Petrucci, have been seen riding these on a go-kart track, so the Ohvales should be fine for anyone under six feet.

There are three engine options (all four-stroke, single-cylinders) to choose from, depending on the models listed below. All bikes come with a titanium Arrow exhaust as standard.

The mini bikes feature a steel trellis frame (built in Italy) and an aluminium swingarm. Suspension duties are performed by a 33mm USD fork and a piggyback monoshock, both fully adjustable and made in-house by Ohvale.

Ohvale India has already brought in the first batch of motorcycles. The first dealership is expected to open in Bengaluru, with the brand targeting other metropolitan cities next. All dealerships will have dedicated service centres as well. Watch this space for Ohvale’s future updates!
