The Suzuki Access 125 is now dearer by nearly Rs 2,000

The Suzuki Access 125 is the Japanese brand’s best-selling model in India, which is why we were glad when it got a reasonable Rs 6,477 price hike at the time of its BS6 update. Unfortunately, though, in a little over five months since its launch, the BS6 version has just received its second price hike. The asking rate first went up at the beginning of March by Rs 2,300, and prices have now further increased by Rs 1,700, making the Access 125 BS6 over Rs 10,000 more expensive than its BS4 predecessor.

More distressingly, it isn’t alone. Suzuki’s other scooter in India, the Burgman Street maxi-style scooter has also just gotten dearer. To find out how much more expensive it is now, head here. Suzuki isn’t the only one either, Hero, Honda, KTM, TVS, Royal Enfield and Yamaha have all hiked the prices of BS6 models since their launch. The addition of fuel-injection and an extra catalytic converter is obviously turning out to be more expensive than we thought.

Suzuki has played it smart by spacing the price hikes out over a substantial period of time. If the Access BS6 had received a single Rs 10,477 price hike at the time of its launch, many buyers would have turned away almost immediately, but by distributing it in this manner, the blow isn’t perceived so severely by the buyers. We just hope that as the nation-wide lockdown gradually lifts, we’ve now finally seen the end of these price hikes.
