The ugliest situations can sometimes bring out the best in us. As the world endures a global pandemic, corporations are rallying together to try and mitigate its impact. Case in point, Bajaj Auto and Hero Cycles who have each allocated Rs 100 crore to the fight against COVID-19.

Bajaj intends to work with the government and its network of over 200+ NGO partners to ensure these resources reach those in need. It will do this by updating healthcare infrastructure in its home city of Pune as well as providing food and shelter to daily wage workers, the homeless, and street children via its NGO partners. It will also create awareness on COVID-19 and strengthen health infrastructure in rural areas.

Hero Cycles says its funds will be used to mitigate the impact of the crisis on its employees, suppliers, customers, and communities across India. The company has reached out to the governments of states where it has major facilities (Punjab, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh) to extend any help required. Hero has also set up an ‘Emergency Monitoring Cell’ headed by Chairman Pankaj M Munjal to closely monitor the economic repercussions of the pandemic and its impact on the organisational supply chains.

Bajaj and Hero Cycles’ namesake company Hero MotoCorp have both been forced to halt production amid the nation’s current lockdown, along with five other manufacturers including electric manufacturer Ather Energy. In fact, Hero’s shutdown has been extended to its plants in Colombia and Bangladesh as well.
