BMW’s Next Gen Superbike Has Been Patented In India

BMW Motorrad has filed a design patent in India for what appears to be the Concept RR, giving us the first hint that the brand could eventually bring its next-generation flagship supersport to our shores.

BMW Concept RR

The BMW Concept RR was first unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como in May last year. Based on the BMW M 1000 RR platform, the concept previews the future design and engineering direction of the brand’s high-performance RR superbike range. At its heart is a liquid-cooled, inline-four engine derived from BMW’s WorldSBK race bike, producing over 230 PS. For context, the BMW S 1000 RR currently sold in India makes 210 PS from its 999 cc inline-four engine.

The Concept RR also takes aerodynamics to the next level, with extensive use of carbon fibre and aluminium, integrated winglets and airflow channels that run through the bodywork from the front to the rear. The design is clearly focused on improving high-speed stability while also generating additional downforce. BMW Motorrad currently sells the S 1000 RR in India, with prices starting at Rs 23.25 lakh (ex-showroom). The superbike received updated bodywork for 2025, including a redesigned fairing, revised winglets and a front wheel cover with integrated brake ducts.

However, the Concept RR is expected to take BMW’s RR family considerably further in terms of performance and technology. The design patent filing is likely an anticipatory move for now, as BMW has not yet revealed a production version of the Concept RR for any global market. The production motorcycle is expected to make its global debut first, after which an India launch could be on the cards. For now, though, the patent filing is a strong indication that BMW may already be keeping India in mind for its future 230 PS-plus superbike.
