Audi Q6 e-tron Revealed: Bold Styling, New Platform And 600km+ Range

The future is here and it looks gorgeous. The Aicon concept is a big deal, literally! It measures 17.9 feet long, 6.9 feet wide and 4.9 feet tall. For perspective, that’s bigger than the Audi A8L in every dimension.To complement this size, Audi has equipped it with 26-inch alloy wheels, though, the only way these will make it to production is if a designer has a personal vendetta against good ride quality.
The front of the car looks similar to the R8. A big hexagonal panel replaces the conventional hexagonal grille while the headlamps have been skipped. With Level 5 autonomous driving capabilities, it doesn’t need headlights and uses an array of 3D pixels which function as a digital display for pedestrians and other road users.
This is a 4-door car, the doors open like those on a Rolls Royce with no B-pillar in between. Even the conventional dashboard has been swapped for a horizontal functional display running across the cabin. The lack of steering wheel and foot pedals in the cabin adds to the spacious feel of the car. It’s a 2+2 seater featuring two lounge chair-like seats in the front and an upholstered two-bench seat integrated into the rear panel. To provide maximum comfort to the passengers in the front, the seats can be adjusted by 500mm between the forward and rear positions. Space aside, it also gets an airy cabin with a transparent roof with large glass panels in the front and rear and convex side windows. It’s plenty practical too, with storage compartments in the front and rear offering a combined capacity of about 660-litres.
The car is powered by four individual motors producing a combined output of 353PS of power and 550Nm of torque. Each motor drives a single wheel, which allows electronically-controlled all-wheel-drive. The low weight construction and the optimised aerodynamics allow it to achieve a claimed range of 700-800km on a single charge. Importantly, the Aicon’s 800-volt charging system juices up the battery unit to 80 per cent in less than 30 minutes. The car is also equipped with a wireless charging function, that means it can pull up to a charging station and charge itself without human help!
Conventional safety systems like ABS, airbags, and the headlights are missing. With everything controlled by computers and literally no room for human error, car accidents will be a thing of past, we hope.
