We can’t get enough of firepower and crackers, not least during Diwali. So, here is a roundup of some from the automotive space that you might’ve missed last week

The week following Diwali was obviously special for us. But it seems like we missed a fair amount of special cars with enough firepower that broke cover while we were all busy celebrating the triumph of good over evil. Ferrari unveiled its track toy duo -- the  488 GT3 Evo and 488 Challenge Evo -- while Lamborghini teased a track-only hypercar with 818PS! Toyota is also taking the GR Supra racing with the 429PS Supra GT4. Porsche, meanwhile, has won over the purists again by offering the Carrera S and Carrera 4S with three pedals. Stuttgart is also working a Sport Turismo version of the Taycan, which was found near Nordschleife. On the other end of the spectrum, patent drawings of the Mustang-inspired SUV was leaked, revealing how it should look like.

Ferrari’s Track Toy Duo -- 488 GT3 Evo and 488 Challenge Evo

The Ferrari Finali Mondiali that took place at Mugello witnessed the debut of two new race-ready track cars from Maranello. The 488 GT3 Evo race car gets a tweaked front-end along with new vanes and flicks, all of which improve aerodynamics and downforce. There are various other minor aero revisions while the major change is the increase in wheelbase and a lower kerb weight. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 powerhouse remains unchanged, although it gets a new engine management system. Another inclusion is the optional 24H/Endurance package which adds basic bits like a front bumper with additional headlights, quick-fill couplings for engine oil and coolant, carbon-fibre clutch, and brake callipers adopted from the GTE. The one-make series car, the Challenge Evo has 50 per cent more downforce than before, thanks to various aero tweaks. New front-end design, redesigned radiator, larger splitter and adjustable downforce are the main changes. The 488 Challenge Evo now also looks a lot like its bigger sibling, the FXX-K Evo.

A new teaser from Lamborghini reveals a V12 track-only hyper car with radical styling. Although the hypercar is partially out of the box, technical details are still under wraps. But, it is obvious that the latest hypercar will be based on the Aventador platform and will use a heavily reworked version of the same Aventador’s 6.5-litre NA V12 enough for 818PS. The short teaser video also shows 63 decals, a roof-mounted intake, sweet wheels and a massive wing finished in glossy carbon fibre. Rumours suggest the name “SVR” which we are not sure about, but we do know that power is transmitted to the wheels through a six-speed sequential Xtrac transmission. We also know that there is a carbon fibre monocoque tube sandwiched between a steel roll cage and an aluminium frame.

Supra Returns To The Racetrack -- GR Supra GT4

Toyota thinks the new GR Supra is ready to go racing as it unveils the Supra GT4. It still gets the same BMW B58 3.0-litre inline-six, but power is up to 429PS from 335PS while torque has also been bumped to 650Nm from 495Nm. The Supra GT4 is also substantially (164kg) lighter than its street version and also gains some top-shelf parts like adjustable KW dampers, bigger Brembo brakes, and 18-inch OZ wheels shod with Pirelli slicks. The GT4 also gains safety kit such as a high-strength roll cage,  FIA-standard racing seats with six-point harness, a carbon fibre instrument panel and GT4 competition specific steering wheel. Oh and it looks angry with all the competition-specific bits, huge wing and the Gazoo Racing livery.

Purists Rejoice! -- 911 Carrera S & Carrera 4S Gets A Manual Transmission

You no longer have to get the GT3 or the 911R, which enjoys a unicorn status, for a manual transmission 911. Porsche has listened, like every time, and is offering a 7-speed good old manual transmission to the 911 Carrera S & Carrera 4S at no extra cost! It comes as an option to the brilliant 8-speed PDK and what you also get with the stick shift is the standard Sport Chrono Package. It adds dynamic engine mounts, PSM sport mode, mode switch for steering wheel and a rev-match function for that heel-toe trickery. With the manual, you also get a standard mechanical limited-slip differential including Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV). Now, give us one reason why one shouldn’t opt for three pedals (except for Indian traffic).

Ford’s all-electric Pony SUV -- Mustang-Inspired SUV

Ford’s working on an all-electric SUV inspired from its pony car. The American giant is not silent about it as it has released a video teaser with the debut date --  November 17. But just a few weeks ahead of that, the patent drawings of the SUV were leaked online and before we knew, renders started flooding in. The patent images look legit as it stays in harmony with what Ford has shown up until now. Technical details are still in the dark but the all-electric SUV will come with a range in excess of 480km. Ford is also yet to announce the name for the SUV as the same is also a point of contention. Even the “Mustang-inspired” is subject to quite an outcry. But hey, it's better than an all-electric Mustang, right?

Taycan For The Soccer Mommy -- Taycan Sport Turimso Spied

Porsche will bring its first all-electric offering, the Taycan, to India by sometime next year. Meanwhile, Porsche has been working on the Sport Turismo version of the Taycan, which was also spied at the Green Hell. Porsche is actively testing the Tursimo body style which comes with the perks of better space, more headroom, improved boot space and better styling (in our opinion). Although heavily camouflaged, the test mule looks closely similar to the Panamera Sport Turimso. Whether Porsche will use the Turbo and Turbo S moniker (rolls eyes) is a story for another day. However, the big question is, can we expect the Sport Turismo to follow the Taycan in India?
