Kia India unveiled the Syros EV, its smallest electric crossover, on July 15, 2026. Based on the internal combustion engine (ICE) Syros, the EV version introduces a powerful electric motor and two battery pack options, one of which offers an ARAI-certified range of 526 km. Bookings have commenced for a token amount of Rs 25,000, with Kia also introducing a Battery-as-a-Service model to lower the initial purchase price.

Two Battery Sizes, One Bold Design

The Kia Syros EV enters the market with two distinct battery configurations to cater to different usage patterns.

The Standard Range model uses a 42 kWh battery pack, delivering an ARAI-certified range of 443 km. For buyers prioritising distance, the Extended Range model is equipped with a 51.4 kWh battery, achieving a claimed range of 526 km. This figure makes the Syros EV the first vehicle in its segment to officially cross the 500 km mark on a single charge.

Here are the variant-wise battery details:

Both versions are powered by a single electric motor that produces 171 PS of power. For recharging, the Syros EV supports DC fast charging up to 100 kW, which can replenish the battery in a claimed 39 minutes. The vehicle also has a 10.8 kW onboard AC charger for home or office use. The exterior design remains consistent with the bold, quirky styling of its petrol-powered counterpart. It measures 3995 mm in length, 1805 mm in width, and 1670 mm in height (including roof rails), with a wheelbase of 2550 mm, positioning it squarely in the competitive sub-4-metre crossover space.

Five Variants, Tiered Tech Stack

Kia will offer the Syros EV across five distinct variants: HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, and the top-spec X-Line. The cabin's centrepiece is a large 30-inch panoramic display panel. This integrated unit consists of a 12.3-inch customisable digital driver’s display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Higher variants are generously equipped. Features include an 8-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a wireless phone charger. The driver interacts with the vehicle via a three-spoke steering wheel that appears to be borrowed from the larger Kia Seltos. For connectivity, the Syros EV comes with Kia Connect, which includes a complimentary three-year subscription and Amazon Alexa integration.

On the safety front, all variants get 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Hill-start Hold Control (HHC) as standard.

Higher trims add a 360-degree camera with front and rear parking sensors. The advanced Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) suite, however, is available exclusively on the range-topping X-Line variant.

Battery-as-a-Service and Buyback Safety Nets

To address key barriers to EV adoption in India, Kia has introduced several innovative ownership models. The most notable is a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) financing option. This allows a customer to purchase the Syros EV without the battery pack, significantly lowering the upfront ex-showroom price. The battery is then rented from Kia at a rate of Rs 3.3 per kilometre. This structure directly targets the high initial cost of electric vehicles.

Further addressing concerns about battery life and resale value, Kia is offering a Lifetime High Voltage Battery Warranty for the first owner of the vehicle. For subsequent owners, the warranty is set at 8 years or 160,000 km. This is complemented by an Assured Buyback programme, which provides a guaranteed residual value for the vehicle. The standard vehicle warranty is for 3 years with unlimited kilometres, with an option to extend it to 5 years.

Booking And Launch Timeline

Kia Motors India commenced pre-bookings for the Syros EV on July 15, 2026. Interested buyers can reserve their vehicle by paying a token amount of Rs 25,000 through the company’s official website or at any authorised dealership across the country. The Syros EV will be available in a palette of nine colour options, including Magma Red, Frost Blue, Glacier White Pearl, and Aurora Black Pearl.

While bookings are now open, Kia has not yet announced the final variant-wise ex-showroom pricing for the Syros EV. The official launch date and the start of customer deliveries are also yet to be confirmed. These crucial details are expected to be revealed closer to the market launch.

Expected Price And Rivals

It is expected to cost between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Kia Syros EV will compete with the Tata Nexon EV, VinFast VF6, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, and MG Windsor EV when it goes on sale.

ZigSays…

With its remarkable claimed range, strong electric motor, and feature-rich cabin, the Kia Syros EV is set to make a good first impression. When you include the lifetime battery warranty and BaaS option, Kia appears to be resolving some of the main issues that EV customers are facing. However, a lot will depend on the ultimate price, which might make or break the Syros EV's chances in this cutthroat market.
