Expected to rival the likes of the Mercedes CLS, AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, and BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe

  • Cosmetic changes include revised front bumper, new DRLs, redesigned tail lights and new diffuser.
  • Interiors are expected to get a minor update along with additional features.
  • Likely to retain its turbocharged 3.0-litre V6, while carrying over the twin turbo 2.9-litre V6 and 4.0-litre V8 petrol engines with enhancements.
  • More powerful hybrid variant is also expected.
  • It is expected to make its debut around 2020 after the Taycan.

The second-gen Porsche Panamera that debuted in 2017 still looks fresh even compared to its recent rivals. However, it looks like Porsche is set to give the sedan a minor mid-life facelift, as evidenced by a prototype spied testing on public roads.

While the facelifted Panamera may look virtually undisguised, there is a bit of camouflage at the front with black tape masking the front bumper. Despite this, the upcoming sedan does receive minor cosmetic changes that include a revised front bumper and redesigned LED DRLs.

At the rear, the Panamera gets a minor revision to the taillight bar with simplified light pods. A redesigned rear diffuser and updated exhaust outlets round off the exterior changes to the Panamera. It does retain bits from its predecessor like the bonnet, doors and headlights though. Interestingly, looking at the green brake calipers, it looks like the prototype being tested is the top-spec Turbo-S E- Hybrid model.

Porsche is yet to reveal details on the interiors of the Panamera facelift. But we can expect the upcoming sedan to get minor upgrades and additional features.

Powertrain details about the Panamera facelift are yet to be revealed, but considering Porsche’s recent push on electrification, we expect the sedan to receive a more complicated hybrid system along with a bigger battery pack. Aside from that, we also expect the Panamera facelift to retain the single-turbo 3.0-litre V6 and the twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 and 4.0-litre V8 petrol engines, but with efficiency and performance tweaks.

Porsche has yet to reveal a launch date for the upcoming Panamera facelift, but we expect it to hit international markets around 2020 after the Taycan makes its debut. Porsche sells its current iteration of the Panamera in India at a price range between Rs 1.15 crore - Rs 2.53 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi) in 9 variants and three engine options. We expect the facelifted Panamera to come at a slight premium over the current one.

Expect the facelift to reach Indian shores in 2020 soon after the international launch. Once launched, expect the Panamera to take on the likes of the Mercedes CLS, AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, and BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe.
