The 2020 Kawasaki Z650 has been unveiled at the 2019 EICMA, but unlike the 2020 Z900, the changes in the new Z650 aren’t that comprehensive. For starters, the 2020 model comes with a redesigned headlight cowl with an LED unit. It also comes with a 4.2-inch TFT screen with smartphone compatibility via the Kawasaki Rideology App. The bike also comes with a thicker, wider pillion seat for greater comfort and the tyres have been upgraded to Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 rubber.

While Kawasaki hasn’t revealed whether the engine is Euro 5-compliant, the exhaust routing seems to be slightly different. It could indicate that the engine is Euro 5-compliant. While the peak power has remained the same - 68PS at 8000rpm, the torque has gone down slightly. It generates 64Nm at 6700rpm as opposed to 65.7Nm at 6500rpm in the 2019 model. The engine retains the 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch.

The suspension and brakes have remained unchanged too. For reference, the trellis frame is suspended on 41mm telescopic fork and a rear horizontal back-link monoshock with adjustable preload. A pair of 300mm petal discs up front and a 220mm petal disc handle the braking responsibility. Dual-channel ABS is standard but apart from that, there are no electronic aids. Interestingly, the 2020 model weighs 3kg less than its predecessor, at 187kg kerb. Lastly, Kawasaki offers the 2020 Z650 in three colour choices: black, green and white.

Expect Kawasaki to launch the 2020 Z650 in India by mid-2020, and since these updates aren’t major, it could be priced under Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom). For reference, the current-gen Z650 costs Rs 5.69 lakh (ex-showroom).
