The Mahindra Scorpio needs no introduction in the country. Since 2002, it has been the go-to choice for off-road enthusiasts looking for a comfortable SUV. In its third generation since 2014, the SUV will receive a much-needed makeover on November 14, 2017. Although it is expected to receive a minor cosmetic facelift, it is likely to pack major changes under the bonnet as well. The chances of an AMT being introduced are high too.
From the spy pics of the 2017 facelift, we know that the front face is definitely getting an update. There is a new front grille which trades the "whiskers" for a Mahindra Imperio pick-up truck-like look. The front bumper is likely to feature new air dams and LED fog lamps. Even though the shape of the headlamp cluster will remain the same, it will get a new set of lights and DRLs. At the back, things are going to remain pretty much the same, save for some tweaks in the bumper and the lights. It will also get a new set of alloy wheels, but will most likely remain the same size at 17-inches.
Mechanically, the Scorpio facelift will continue to use the 2.2-litre diesel engine and the optional 1.99-litre diesel motor for the Delhi NCR market. Mahindra could let go of the 2.5-litre diesel which powers the base variant of the current Scorpio. If we are to be optimistic, the power and torque output of the 2.2-litre engine could be bumped up to produce 140PS/330Nm (same as the XUV500) when compared to the current 118PS/280Nm. Mahindra could also introduce the 6-speed automatic seen on the XUV with the Scorpio facelift.
Mahindra has also been working on a new 2.0-litre petrol engine. Though it feels a little too soon, they could surprise us with a petrol variant of the Scorpio as well. The Scorpio Getaway Pickup has also been spotted testing multiple times and could be introduced along with the Scorpio facelift as well.
Inside, the equipment remains the same more or less. There could, however, be different upholstery options this time around. The Scorpio facelift is expected to borrow the touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and other Mahindra Connected apps from the XUV as well.
The Scorpio facelift is not expected to see a major hike in prices and should be Rs 10,000-15,000 more than the current SUV. We will bring you more details on November 14th, when we will be reporting live from the launch event. So, stay tuned.
