  • The new Speed Twin 1200 will be available from £12,495 (approximately Rs 12,81,650), and the Speed Twin 1200 RS from £14,495 (approximately Rs 14,87,450).

Triumph Motorcycles has launched the Triumph Speed Twin 1200 & Speed Twin 1200 RS bikes. Both bikes have got loads of upgrades. Here’s a birds-eye view of the bikes:

Has the design changed?

The Triumph Speed Twin 1200 has a proper retro design showcasing the brand’s legacy with a modern touch. It is available in three colours: Crystal White, Carnival Red and Aluminium Silver. The bike gets a new rounded tank with a loud  “1200” graphic on it and it has a flip-up fuel cap. The side panels are minimalistic yet very classy and integrate well into the throttle body cover that has a brushed aluminium finish. The engine casing is all-new with an angular design in an all-black colour. Coming to the back, the exhausts have been downsized while preserving its sound and appeal. The headlight has a brushed aluminium bezel and stylish cast aluminium finishers. The bike rolls on new cast aluminium wheels with well-designed spokes for a retro touch. Even the handlebar on the standard Speed 1200 has been increased in height to give it a more comfortable riding posture.

Being an “RS”, the Speed Twin 1200 RS is sportier and has a more forward-leaning posture with further rear-set footpegs. The bike is available in two colour schemes: Baja Orange & Sapphire Black. It shows off its “RS” tag on the tank and other decals in gold. While most other attributes are similar between the two, the Speed Twin 1200 RS comes with a napped finish seat (Suede-like finish) and anodised suspension components.

What’s new with the Engine?

Engine-wise, there’s no real change here. The Triumph Speed Twin 1200 and the Speed Twin 1200 RS are powered by the same massive 1200cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that produces 105 PS at 7,750 rpm and 112 Nm at 4,250 rpm. This massive engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The engine configuration helps the bike feel lively in the full rev range and offers a balance of power.

Any new features?

The Triumph bikes have a retro silhouette however that shouldn't be mistaken. The Speed Twin 1200 is equipped with two riding modes: Road and Rain while the RS model comes with an additional Sport mode. It comes with dual-channel ABS, and it now also benefits from cornering ABS for more confidence-inspiring braking while riding through the corners. The Speed Twin 1200 RS is equipped with an up-and-down quickshifter. Unfortunately, it’s only available on the RS model, and can’t be fitted on the standard Speed Twin, even as an option. The instrument console features a TFT display housed in a circular dial that holds onto its retro appeal and provides turn-by-turn navigation and phone connectivity. It also has a USB-C charging port.

What’s different under the skin?

In terms of underpinnings, the bikes get premium equipped for the performance on offer. The Speed Twin 1200 features Marzocchi forks and twin Marzocchi rear suspension units aiding in better handling and comfort. The RS model has sporty ergonomics on offer for riders who want something more out of the bike like rear-set footpegs, fully adjustable Marzocchi forks and top-spec Öhlins rear suspension coupled with Brembo Stylema calipers. The Speed 1200 RSrolls on Metzeler Racetec RR K3 tyres, while the standard Speed 1200 gets Metzeler M9 RR tyres.

When will the Triumph Speed 1200 and 1200 RS come to India?

Currently, the 1200cc Triumph bikes have been launched in some international markets such as Europe, the UK, and the US to name a few. We expect the bikes to enter the Indian market sometime in 2025.
