Toyota will bring back the Innova Crysta in its lower-spec trims, but if cabbies want to offer their customers a more premium experience, they have a new choice

  • Innova Hycross’ base-spec G trim can only be registered for fleet purposes.

  • Features include manual AC, steel wheels, and fabric upholstery.

  • Only gets the 174PS 2-litre petrol engine, paired with a CVT.

  • Cabbies looking for a diesel engine option will need to consider the Crysta.

The Innova Hycross will coexist alongside the previous-generation Innova Crysta in Toyota’s India portfolio. While the former offers a premium and upmarket experience, the latter will be limited to the lower-spec trims for fleet purposes. However, if you do want the more premium Innova Hycross for commercial use, we have exclusively come to know that the carmaker will be offering the base-spec G trim for fleet registration.

Despite the Toyota Innova being popular with fleet owners, it remained an equally popular choice with private car buyers, which wasn’t the case with certain cars in our market. So it makes it a no-brainer for Toyota to offer its latest offering for fleet purposes, considering the popularity of the Innova nameplate.

In terms of features, the Hycross’ base-spec G trim also gets just the essentials. So highlights include 16-inch steel wheels, dual-beam LED reflector headlamps, part-LED taillamps, fabric upholstery, analogue dials with a multi-info display, manual air-conditioning, and four speaker sound system. Dual airbags, electronic stability control, and hill start assist round off the safety equipment.

Customers preferring a comfortable refined experience will be happy to know that the base trim gets just the 174 2-litre petrol engine, driving the front wheels via a CVT. Toyota hasn’t revealed the fuel efficiency figures of this engine, but a large petrol engine with an automatic in a large vehicle isn’t exactly the best recipe for fuel efficiency.

Yes, there’s a 186PS 2-litre strong hybrid petrol engine on offer in higher trims, but this option will remain only for private buyers.

Considering that Toyota is bringing the Crysta back in its lower trims with a diesel engine, it’s highly likely that it will remain the popular choice with fleet owners down the road. But if you want to offer your customers a more premium and spacious MPV with the refinement of a petrol engine, then the Innova Hycross’ base trim does make a whole lot of sense.
