This Tenere 700 is ‘Extreme’ and sounds like it’s ready to compete in the Dakar Rally

The Yamaha Tenere 700 is arguably the most legendary middleweight ADV, as it was made with one thing in mind: to gobble up any and every terrain you throw at it, and the bike’s bloody good at it. And every now and then Yamaha introduces special editions of it that pack some serious arsenal. And now with the Tenere 700 Extreme, Yamaha has taken both the equipment and the desirability quotient up SEVERAL notches.

For starters, it’s this blue livery that looks incredible! It’s bright and attention-grabbing, but the neon green finish adds that little bit of subtlety. The Tenere 700’s overall tall, lean and rally bike-like stance has always looked incredible and little touches like the vertically set 5-inch TFT console accentuate the rally bike look. Heck, the console even has a roadbook-style screen option, making you truly feel like a rally racer even if you just ride to work.

Then there’s the bright KYB fully adjustable fork boasting a massive 230mm suspension travel. Even the KYB monoshock has 220mm of wheel travel, both 20mm more than the standard Tenere 700. And all this has resulted in its ground clearance increasing to a whopping 260mm and OF COURSE that’s complemented by a vertigo-inducing 910mm seat height. Other bits include lighter titanium footpegs, a flatter rally-style one-piece seat, an aluminium radiator guard and a higher-set front fender. Adding a touch of sweet elegance to the bright livery are the gold anodised aluminium spoke wheels.

Coming to India? Nope. As much as us Indians drool over the Tenere 700, Yamaha refuses to bring the bike here. And given that the Triumph Tiger 900 and the BMW F 850 GS sell pretty well here, it does make sense for us to get another middleweight adventure bike. But yeah, unfortunately, that’s not happening anytime soon…
