Skoda India will be revealing the name of its upcoming subcompact SUV on August 21, 2024. The Czech carmaker will be choosing the final one out of the 10 shortlisted names, which were chosen from the naming contest held after the announcement of this new India-specific model. Along with the announcement, the 10 winners of the naming contest will be joining the Czech carmaker for a trip to Prague, Czech Republic, the hometown of Skoda!
After the announcement of the subcompact SUV for India, Skoda announced a new campaign called “Name Your Skoda” where you can christen the name of the upcoming model. The criteria was simple - suggest a name which started with ‘K’ and ended with ‘Q’ to keep in line with the manufacturer’s naming nomenclature for its ICE SUVs. Out of over two lakh entries, the final 10 names were selected and a voting poll was conducted to shortlist the final one.

The 10 final names for the upcoming subcompact SUV are:
Skoda Kwid
Skoda Kymaq
Skoda Kylaq
Skoda Kariq
Skoda Kyroq
Skoda Kosmiq
Skoda Kayaq
Skoda Kaiq
Skoda Kliq
Skoda Karmiq
Skoda’s Tata Nexon rival is expected to debut in India in early 2025 and has been spotted on test multiple times in India. It will be based on a shortened version of the MQB-A0 IN platform that underpins the Slavia and Kushaq. Recently, Skoda teased the rear-end design of the upcoming subcompact, which you can take a closer look at here.

Considering that this upcoming model slots in a segment where features are given utmost importance, we expect Skoda to brim up this car with equipment.

Expected features include a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 8-inch digital driver’s display, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat, a wireless phone charger, automatic climate control and cruise control.
Passenger safety should be taken care of by six airbags (as standard), ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, electronic stability control and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The upcoming Tata Nexon rival is likely to be offered with just a single 115 PS 1-litre turbo-petrol engine, teamed with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic option. This is the same engine found in the Slavia and Kushaq as well.

One can expect the upcoming Skoda subcompact SUV to be priced from around Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with stalwarts like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
