Ladies and gentlemen, this is it! This is your first look of the spanking new production-spec Mahindra Thar 5-door without any camouflage after a long time of testing, billion spy shots and leaks. Along with this first sneak peek, the Thar 5-door gets a new name - the “Thar ROXX.” More details about the Thar ROXX will follow as we inch closer to its August 15 India debut, but let’s get cracking first about its design.
Mahindra has given us a first clear look of the exterior of the Thar 5-door, which now gets a new name: Thar ROXX. And it clearly looks more premium, upmarket and posh than the current Mahindra Thar 3-door.

To give the Mahindra Thar ROXX its own identity, Mahindra has given the elongated SUV a handful of design tweaks. For starters, you get a new body coloured slatted grille that gives the front-end a more macho appearance that is flanking a pair of new round LED headlights with C-motif LED DRLs. The fender mounted panels now house just the LED turn indicators, while the bumper gets a contrasting silver finish, unlike the smaller Thar that gets a black finish.

In profile, obviously, the biggest and most evident change is the elongated wheelbase and the extra set of doors with pillar-mounted door handles. Adding to the premium look are the new 18-inch dual-tone alloys.

Moving on to the rear, the Thar ROXX gets new LED tail lamps, which now comes with an inverted C-motif signature. Lastly, even though you can’t see in this teaser, previous spy shots have confirmed that the spare wheel will be offered with a cover.
The inside of the Mahindra Thar ROXX is yet to be teased, but from previous spy images, we can confirm the layout will be similar to the existing Thar. But to make the experience more upmarket, it will get a handful of modern features, including a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry with push button start and a 360-degree camera.
Other expected features additions include a wireless phone charger and dual-zone climate control. As for safety, it should be taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control and most importantly, ADAS.
The Mahindra Thar ROXX will be offered with the smaller Thar’s 132PS 2.2-litre diesel and 150PS 2-litre turbo-petrol engine, albeit with more power. It will be paired with either a 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic transmissions as well as rear-wheel and four-wheel drive options.

One can expect the upcoming Mahindra Thar ROXX to be priced from around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Force Gurkha 5-door, while being a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
