Volkswagen is almost ready to introduce the first facelift of its mid-size SUV, the Taigun, in India since its launch in 2021. As the car shares its platform, engines, and much of its tech with the Skoda Kushaq, we believe that the 2026 Taigun Facelift could draw a lot of equipment from the Kushaq, which has also recently received its first facelift since launch.
Here in this story, we give you a brief list of updates and new features that the 2026 facelifted Volkswagen Taigun could offer.
The Volkswagen Taigun has one of the most timeless designs in its competition. It's hard to believe that it is five years old now, and so it does need an updated styling, which will be brought with this facelift. At the front, it could feature a reworked and slimmer grille with LED projector headlights, combined with connected DRLs and a redesigned bumper with larger air dams.

The rear profile is also expected to boast an updated bumper and a new design for the LED taillights.
From the side, the tall SUV silhouette, body claddings, and the roof rails are expected to be carried over from the current model, although the facelifted Taigun should get a new design for the 17-inch alloy wheels.

The 2026 Volkswagen Taigun facelift is expected to be offered with the same set of turbo petrol engines as the current model, but what could be new is the introduction of the 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox for the 1-litre TSI engine. This new transmission is also offered on the facelifted Skoda Kushaq. The 8-speed automatic unit has been tuned to adapt to Indian driving conditions, which helps to provide the best of both worlds: high performance and good fuel efficiency.
Here are the detailed engine specifications:

1-litre turbo-petrol |
1.5-litre turbo-petrol |

6-speed manual / 8-speed torque converter automatic (NEW) |

The Volkswagen Taigun has always been one of the most feature-loaded cars of the segment, but it still had room for improvement. Volkswagen seems to have listened to people's need to stay fresh in the game. The facelifted Taigun is expected to feature a panoramic sunroof and a new digital display for the driver's instrument cluster. The Taigun could also come equipped with a 360-degree camera with front and rear sensors and an electronic parking brake.

The Taigun offers one of the best driving experiences of the segment, but what about the rear seat passengers who don’t get to drive? For them, Volkswagen might offer rear-seat massaging, something similar to what is also offered on the facelifted Skoda Kushaq. This feature will enhance rear-seat comfort and is targeted towards customers who spend the majority of their time on the rear seats.

Staying tough in the game does not only come with modern features and exciting drivability, but the colour options should also be appealing. To tackle this, Volkswagen might introduce a few new colours that will attract the younger generations. Though we don’t yet know what exactly these colours could be, Volkswagen never fails to impress.

The Volkswagen Taigun is currently priced from Rs. 11.4 lakh (ex-showroom). Taking reference from this, the 2026 facelifted model is expected to be priced from Rs. 12 lakh (ex-showroom).

The new facelifted Volkswagen Taigun is expected to debut in the Indian market in February or March 2026, while the official launch and price reveal could take place by later. More details on this are awaited from Volkswagen.
Once launched, the new facelifted Volkswagen Taigun will continue to take on popular mid-size SUVs like the Honda Elevate, MG Astor, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the Tata Sierra. It will also face strong competition from the new Renault Duster and from its own in-house sibling, the Skoda Kushaq, making the mid-size SUV segment more dynamic and fierce than ever.
If you’re already very fond of the Volkswagen Taigun, the current model already delivers a strong mix of performance, safety, and features, plus with the stock clearance benefits, it becomes an even more attractive deal, being the smartest time to pick one up. The facelift is still expected soon in the coming months; buyers opting for the pre-facelift model will still not miss out much.
