From the teasers, it seems to have a driver-centric interior layout with a three-spoke steering wheel

It was in October 2021 when Land Rover unleashed the fifth generation Range Rover SUV, and now, its less expensive counterpart, the Range Rover Sport, will get a generation update on May 10. It’s likely to be introduced in India, possibly sometime later this year, as a rival to the BMW X5.

On the outside, the teaser shows the new Range Rover Sport’s sleeker LED headlights and curved bonnet line. Its smooth lines are derived from the more premium Range Rover SUV, and the front bumper design resembles previous iterations of the Range Rover Sport with large air dams on each side. The new Sport will also get flush door handles from its bigger sibling.

Inside, the third-gen Range Rover Sport will feature an all-new interior with a minimalist design similar to the luxury SUV it’s based on. Land Rover says that the design will be more driver-centric, so although the hardware will likely be similar to the Range Rover, the Sport will feature distinct design cues. They include the curved centre console, floating infotainment touchscreen and two physical knobs for the climate control system. Also, notice the three-spoke steering wheel – the Range Rover has a two-spoke design.

The new Range Rover Sport will likely get similar 48-volt hybrid and V8 petrol powertrains as the 2022 Range Rover. The latter is offered with a 350PS 3-litre diesel engine and 400PS 3-litre petrol engine, both paired with a self-charging hybrid system.

Similar to the current RR Sport, the third-gen SUV is likely to be offered with a 300PS 2-litre petrol engine as well. Although 5-litre supercharged V8 isn’t likely to be offered, the top-spec RR Sport will get a new BMW-sourced twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that makes 530PS and 750Nm in the bigger Range Rover.

We expect Land Rover to introduce the RR Sport in India later this year. It’s likely to command a premium over the current Range Rover Sport, which retails between Rs 91.27 lakh and Rs 2.19 crore (ex-showroom). The third-gen SUV will rival the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the BMW X5 SUVs.
