2022 marks 60 years since our favorite secret agent 007, James Bond made his debut on the big screen. And to celebrate that, the folks from Land Rover have cooked up a special Defender 90 that should soothe true-blue Bond buffs. That being said, this Defender isn’t just a collector’s item, as it will be competing in the 2022 Bowler Defender Challenge.

Like the Defender V8 Bond Edition, this Defender’s got the slick, classy and stealthy looks down to a T, with an black body. But Land Rover has added a nice touch with the names of all of the James Bond films in gold on the hood and tailgate. And the gold bits don’t stop there, as there’s a large gold ‘60’ combined with the classic 007 logo on the roof and side profile.

Under the hood, it’s got the entry-level P300 Ingenium 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 300PS and 400Nm. Sure, it's not a V8 like the Bond Edition, but Land Rover has souped it up to be competition ready. The upgrades include a full roll cage, a new roof spoiler, better cooling for the engine and gearbox, as well as a sports exhaust.

Other enhancements to make it handle better on the rough stuff include 18-inch Bowler wheels with all-terrain tyres, as well as an updated suspension setup with modified subframes, and new springs.

The Bowler Challenge is essentially a 12-team feeder series for global rally-raid competitions including the Dakar rally. The Defender Rally Special will be piloted by James Bond stunt driver and three-time British Rally champion Mark Higgins alongside co-driver Claire Williams. The pair will be competing in Rally North Wales in Dolgellau on March 26.
Now, since this is a one-off Land Rover Defender, don’t expect it to go on sale anytime soon. That being said, we’ve still got the standard Defender in India which retails from Rs 80.72 lakh to Rs 1.22 crore (ex-showroom India). It takes on the Jeep Wrangler in India.
