Jaguar-Land Rover’s (JLR) is driving further ahead on their EV journey with the announcement of the upcoming Range Rover Sport Electric. The shift towards electric mobility is moving further in parallel to ICE engines. The Sport Electric will sit alongside the iconic supercharged V8, the plug-in hybrid, the turbo-petrol V6, and the diesel engine options.
The Range Rover Sport is among the more iconic JLR cars in recent times. It is among the most capable off-road SUVs that oozes regal appeal. Range Rovers look good, covered in mud in a swamp, and when it's neat, it looks good in front of a 5-star hotel, which is a rare quality Range Rovers live up to.

The Range Rover Sport Electric will be based on the MLA (Modular Longitudinal Architecture) platform, which underpins the rest of the premium JLR products. Additionally, it is built on an 800V architecture, which supports the dual-motor setup and the 118.5 kWh battery pack.

Thanks to the Sport Electric being an EV, the centre of gravity has dropped by about 73mm, which could make a tangible difference to its cornering abilities.

The design, on the other hand, is largely similar to the ICE siblings of the SUV but with subtle differences to give a distinct identity. The iconic Range Rover front grille is narrower, the wheels see a new aero-efficient design, and a subtler difference is the EV lettering on the wheel hubcaps.
The interior of the Sport Electric is also expected to be largely similar to the ICE version.
The Range Rover Sport Electric gets a dual-motor setup, producing up to 550 PS of power, with torque numbers yet to be announced.

Powered by a large 118.5 kWh battery, the Sport Electric will be a quick beast, possibly faster than the SV, its V8 sibling.

The Range Rover Sport Electric is expected to be priced from Rs 1.9 crore (ex-showroom) in India. It is expected to launch in India sometime in early 2027.
The Sport Electric will go against the Porsche Cayenne Electric and the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.
The Range Rover Sport Electric will be the step forward into the electric era for the brand. Whether we like it or not, it will strongly drive personal mobility forward in the future. And for many who buy Range Rovers to drive them within the city, this will be a smoother and faster option with lower running costs if they ever counted the numbers. However, such breed of people are the complete opposite to the petrol-loving, noise-seeking enthusiasts.
