Hyundai’s Venue has been one of the segment’s most popular options for a while, and now with the second-generation of the SUV being introduced, it has become even more attractive. But should you buy one? Here are the pros and cons you need to consider:
Pros: The old Venue had started to age in terms of the exterior styling and we are happy to report that the new generation brings forward a much needed change which looks a lot more contemporary and mature. It has also grown slightly larger, translating into a better road presence which is further enhanced by the large C-shaped DRLs.

Pros: Inside the new Venue lies a brand-new dashboard layout which adds a nice, large dose of premium-ness. With a 20mm increase in the wheelbase and a wider cabin, the new Venue does feel a lot more spacious inside. A more commanding driving position also boosts your confidence and gives an ‘SUV-like’ feeling.

Pros: In terms of the equipment levels, Hyundai has given the Venue a long list of features, far outdoing the previous car. It gets goodies like dual curved 12.3-inch screens, a 4-way powered driver seat, wireless charger, ventilated front seats, 2-step reclining rear backrest and a voice enabled electric sunroof. Safety too is taken care of with a Level 2 ADAS suite, 6 airbags, 360 degree camera, front and rear parking sensors and an electronic parking brake with auto hold.

Cons: Even with the long equipment list, there are certain misses like a panoramic sunroof and a fully power adjustable driver seat (height adjustment still remains manual), especially due to them becoming quite common for the segment.

Pros: The Venue offers a wide variety of engines including a 1.2-litre NA Petrol, 1-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel with the latter two getting automatic transmission options as well. All three powertrains feel smooth and refined. Buyers on a tight budget and with urban usage can opt for the naturally aspirated petrol, those craving sportiness and mid-range punch can get the turbo-petrol and long-distance mile munching is handled very well by the diesel.

What’s more, Hyundai has now also given it a slightly firmer suspension setup striking the ideal balance between high speed stability and pothole-stricken city running. Yes, it may not be the sportiest out there but comfort is one place the Venue does not falter.

Cons: The fuel-efficiency of the turbo-petrol engine, while claimed to be up to 20 kmpl, can be low at just 9-10 kmpl in heavy traffic depending on conditions.
The new Venue brings forward many changes that go on to make it a great option for its segment. Better space, more features, bolder styling and a much larger safety suite all work together to make it an all rounder and a more family friendly option compared to the outgoing car.
However, with that in mind, it is expensive with the top-end diesel variant breaching the Rs 15 lakh barrier, which is the sort of money that could get you a competent larger car too. It is not subtle either if you plan to fly under the radar, or for that matter want some kick in the pants feel when you flex your right foot.
