The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is Royal Enfield’s flagship ADV offering and it is also the first Royal Enfield bike to come with a liquid-cooled engine. The Himalayan has no natural rivals, and the closest alternative is the Yezdi Adventure.
The Yezdi Adventure recently was updated and now the bike has undergone a lot of interesting changes that make it stand out. Here’s how the updated Yezdi Adventure compares to the Himalayan 450.
Both the bikes feature the same ADV like design, with the raised fender, long travel suspension, large flyscreen and the rugged looking tank racks. The Himalayan feels a bit more larger overall, whereas the Yezdi Adventure has a more compact profile.
In terms of styling and colours, both bikes come in a variety of colours. But the Yezdi Adventure’s Magnite Maroon colour scheme comes off as the most premium offering out of the lot, thanks to the beautiful graphics and golden pinstripes.
When comparing the performance, it is not a surprise that the Himalayan 450 has the upper hand. It is powered by a 452cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine which produces 40PS and 40Nm.
The Yezdi Adventure on the other hand is powered by a 334cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine which outputs 29.6PS and 29.8Nm, which is 10.4PS and 10.2Nm less than the Himalayan 450.
One of the main factors that decides whether or not a bike will be a good ADV is its underpinnings. The Himalayan 450 gets a 43mm inverted fork and a linked monoshock. The Yezdi Adventure on the other hand comes with a conventional telescopic fork and a monoshock. The Himlayan has a ground clearance of 230mm, whereas the Yezdi Adventure has a ground clearance of 220mm.
Both the bikes sport a similar 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheel setup, with tube tyres. Braking duties on the Himalayan 450 are handled by a 320mm front and 270mm rear disc brake, with dual-channel ABS. The Yezdi Adventure features a 320mm front and 240mm rear disc, with dual-channel ABS.
So both the bikes are relatively equal in terms of ground clearance, but the Himalayan 450 has the edge when it comes to braking performance, thanks to the larger 270mm rear disc.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 comes with a 5-inch round TFT console with smartphone connectivity and related features such as call/SMS alerts, full-fledged navigation via GoogleMaps and music controls. The bike also gets two riding modes Performance and Eco and also switchable ABS.
The Yezdi Adventure, on the other hand, comes with a digital instrument console with smartphone connectivity and features such as turn-by-turn navigation. The bike also offers 3 ABS modes: Rain, Road and Off-road.
Overall, in terms of features the Himalayan has a slight edge, but it isn’t anything big.
When comparing the prices, the Yezdi Adventure starts at Rs 2,09,900 whereas the Royal Enfield Himalayan starts at Rs 2,85,000. All prices, ex-showroom Delhi.
Both the Himalayan 450 and the Yezdi Adventure have a lot to offer, but selecting one over the other is not easy. If you are someone who wants to go for the top of the line ADV offering in the market, that is also relatively affordable then the new Himalayan makes sense as it offers more performance, features and better underpinnings.
The Yezdi Adventure may not come off as the most attractive option, but it fills a big gap left by the Himalayan 411. It will be the right choice if you are someone who is looking for an entry level ADV that can almost match the Himalayan in terms of features, but at the same time doesn't come too heavy on the pocket.
