You couldn’t get more retro than having a stick shifter, and a tail-happy drivetrain

  • It is based on the 911 Turbo S.

  • The 7-speed manual gearbox paired to a 550PS 3.7-litre twin-turbo flat-six cylinder engine makes it the most powerful manual 911.

  • Ducktail spoiler, double-bubble roof, retro stripes and 20/21-inch ‘Fuch’ alloy wheels honor 911s of the 60s and 70s.

  • Cabin gets semi-aniline brown leather upholstery, and Pepita pattern finish on the door panels and seat centres.

  • Only 1250 units will be made.

Porsche ain’t no strangers in giving 911s a retro look with the most recent example being the Targa 4S ‘Heritage Design Edition’ back in June 2020. Now, the folks from Stuttgart have done it again, with the introduction of the 911 Sport Classic. Based on the 911 Turbo S, it's the second of four special edition models that will show up over the 992 generation 911’s lifespan.

As the name suggests, it’s a 911 with retro vibes. A ducktail rear spoiler honors the 911 Carrera RS of the 70s, with the double-bubble roof harking back to the 997 911 Sport Classic. You get the 911 Turbo S widebody kit, racing stripes running along the middle and retro circular stickers on the doors. Putting the cherry on top is a modern iteration of the classic 20/21-inch 911 ‘Fuchs’ wheels.

While the cabin is largely unchanged, the retro theme continues with the door panels and seat centres finished in the iconic Pepita pattern. It uses semi-aniline leather upholstery in brown to further accentuate that classic feel.

It’s under the hood where this 911 is really a classic. And what better way to do it than bolting on a 7-speed manual gearbox, and a rear-wheel drivetrain? Coupled with a 550PS modern 3.7-litre twin-turbo flat-six cylinder engine, it's actually the most powerful 911 you can buy with a stick shift. Other performance trickery includes a suspension, based on the 911 Turbo and 911 GTS, with  Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard.

Being a retro-themed model, it comes as no surprise that the 911 Sport Classic is an exclusive offering with only 1250 examples being built. Considering its exclusivity, Porsche is unlikely to bring over this 911 to India. That aside, we still have the standard model that retails at prices starting from Rs 1.69 crore (ex-showroom).
