Nissan Confirms The Launch Of An MPV And 2 SUVs In India!

Is the Nissan Patrol coming now? Well, not yet!

Speaking at a media roundtable, Nissan’s MD emphasised that India remains a key market for the company. He reiterated that Nissan’s product offensive strategy for India is on track, with a “robust and future-ready product line-up” in development. The company is aiming to meet its long-term business goals in India through a mix of local production, platform sharing, and model diversification.

Nissan has confirmed two all-new models for the Indian market, a 3-row MPV and a midsize SUV. Both vehicles have entered the pre-production phase at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai. The MPV is expected to launch first, by early Q1 of 2026, followed by the midsize SUV later that year. These vehicles will be locally manufactured and tailored for India.

B-MPV: Based On The Renault Triber’s Platform

The upcoming MPV will use the CMF-A+ platform, which also underpins the Renault Triber. However, Nissan has stated that the vehicle will have distinct styling and interior treatment.

While it will likely share the same 1-litre petrol engine (with manual and AMT options), it is being positioned as a standalone model rather than a rebadged sibling.

This will be Nissan’s second seven-seater in India after the now-discontinued Evalia and is expected in Q1 of 2026.

5 Seater C-SUV: Built On The CMF-B Platform

The second model will be a 5-seater midsize SUV based on the CMF-B platform, the same as the next-generation Renault Duster. This places it against segment leaders like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder.

It will also be locally manufactured and is expected to come with a fresh exterior and interior layout to differentiate it from its Renault counterpart.

It is expected to arrive later in mid-2026.

7-Seater C-SUV: The Follow-up

In addition to the MPV and 5-seater C-SUV, Nissan also confirmed that a three-row C-SUV is in development. This will be based on the 5-seater C-SUV, based on the long-wheelbase version of the CMF-B platform.

This model is expected to arrive in early Q1 of 2027 and could compete against the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar and the MG Hector Plus.

Not Just a Rebadged Renault, Nissan Aims For Differentiation

Both the MPV and SUVs will share their bones with Renault models, but Nissan is taking steps to ensure they feel distinct. This includes different body panels, unique interiors, and slightly different driving characteristics.

So while the alliance platform helps with cost and speed, the end products would not feel like cookie-cutter copies. That’s a win for buyers looking for real choices.

Why This Matters: India Is Central To Nissan’s Future

Even as the Renault-Nissan Alliance underwent a global restructuring earlier this year, as per Nissan, India has been an integral part of Nissan’s global growth plans.

These new launches are part of a larger strategy to localise products, expand market share, and reduce dependence on exports. And with fresh investment into the Chennai plant and engineering centre, India is also being made into an export hub to cater for the LHD market.

Nissan Magnite exported to South Africa

Apart from the new launches, Nissan is also exploring some global products to be brought to India via the CBU route. Currently, there are no confirmations or speculations regarding the models under consideration.

ZigSays…

Nissan’s current portfolio in India is limited to the Magnite, which has held the brand’s position in the market since 2020. With the addition of the MPV and midsize SUV, and later, a 7-seater SUV, Nissan is finally expanding its presence.

Platform sharing with Renault helps with costs and development timelines, but the real test will be how well these vehicles are executed in terms of pricing, features, and differentiation.

We will keep an eye on how these plans unfold, especially as testing mules start appearing on Indian roads.
