MG has launched the Windsor EV at an introductory starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It has been launched with an innovative battery-leasing program, which negates the need to pay the hefty battery cost up front. While you can read more about that ownership program here, this story focuses on the mid-spec Exclusive variant, which sits below the top-spec Essence trim.
Only unknown detail is its price, but apart from that, let’s take a look at what this mid-spec trim is all about:
The Windsor EV’s design is pretty consistent throughout its three variants. LED DRLs, connected LED projector headlamps, LED tail lights, flush door handles and ORVM-mounted turn indicators are all standard offerings.

But while the base variant gets 17-inch steel wheels, this mid-spec trim gets an upgrade to 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, which are shared with the top-spec trim.

This variant also gets the addition of chrome elements on the windowline, but that’s the only other change over the base variant. The rest of the design is identical to the top-spec trim. In terms of colour options, it is available in two shades only: Pearl White and Starburst Black.
Just like the exterior, the theme of the Windsor’s cabin is similar throughout the variant lineup. So the all black theme contrasted with Gold inserts is consistent, but the elements and the materials inside it are varying.

For starters, you get soft touch leatherette throughout the dashboard, armrest, steering wheel and on the door armrest as well. The seats are also made of leatherette from this variant onwards, and you also get LED rear reading lights here.
But the biggest, and most apparent change over the base variant here is the addition of the 15.6-inch infotainment system. You still miss out on the infinity glass roof (panoramic sunroof), but you do get a 8.8-inch display for the driver, which is also an upgrade from the smaller 7-inch unit that’s offered with the base model. Powered driver seat adjustment, auto ORVMs, one touch up/down for all four windows, rear central armrest, connected car technology and 360-degree camera are a few other feature additions over the base variant.

Things like ventilated front seats, air filter, multi-coloured ambient lighting and the 9-speaker Infinity sound system are reserved for the top-spec trim.
Equipment like auto AC, cruise control, keyless entry, 6-speaker sound system, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are offered as standard, while the standard safety kit comprises of 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electric parking brake, ISOFIX mounts, auto headlamps and rain sensing wipers. This variant additionally gets a proper tyre pressure monitoring system and cornering LED lights over the base variants.
The India-spec MG Windsor EV gets a sole 38kWh battery pack, which is paired with a 136PS/200Nm electric motor. The setup has a claimed range of up to 331km. While the 3.3kw portable charging cable and home box charger is offered as standard, the 7.4kW AC fast charger is an optional extra.

The powertrain has a fast charging capability of up to 45kW, which can take the battery from 0-80% charge in 55 minutes.
The price for the mid-spec Exclusive variant of the MG Windsor is yet to be announced but we reckon it could be priced around the Rs 12.5 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.

Going by its size and powertrain specifications, the Windsor EV is a rival to the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV400. But thanks to its aggressive pricing, it can also be considered as an alternative to the Punch EV.
