Milestone after milestone, Maruti’s 2024 is off to a great start

  • Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has crossed the 10 lakh sales milestone.

  • The nameplate was launched in India in 2012.

  • Maruti claims it to be the fastest-selling MPV in India.

  • Ertiga holds 37.5% market share in its respective segment.

  • Prices range between Rs 8.69 lakh and Rs 13.03 lakh.

2024 is proving to be a lucky year for Maruti Suzuki as the brand has hit another milestone, and it is a rather big one this time around. After completing 1 lakh sales for the Maruti Fronx just recently, Maruti has now hit a 10 lakh sales milestone with the Ertiga MPV. The nameplate, launched back in 2012, has been a constant choice for large families looking for a 7-seater option.

While sales were relatively slow (focus on relative) in the early years of the MPV, the last five years have seen high demand for the Ertiga, with 5 lakh sales being racked up between 2019 and 2024. With this feat, Maruti claims that the Ertiga is the fastest-selling MPV to reach the 1 million sales milestone. The carmaker also added that the Ertiga MPV makes up for 37.5% of the market share, which includes the likes of the rebadged Toyota Rumion and Kia Carens.

It seems like majority of the sales for the Maruti Ertiga were of the higher-end variants, which pack features like a 7-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, paddle shifters, cruise control, automatic AC and connected car technology.

There is only a single engine on offer with the MPV: a 103PS/137Nm, 1.5-litre petrol engine, which can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. There is also a CNG option on offer.

Offered in four trims, the prices for the Maruti Ertiga start from Rs 8.69 lakh and go up to Rs 13.03 lakh (ex-showroom). Maruti also offers a slightly premium alternative to the Ertiga in the form of the XL6, which is sold via their Nexa outlets. So while the XL6 is a premium alternative within the family, the Ertiga is a direct rival to the Kia Carens and its rebadged cousin, the Toyota Rumion.
