The Kia Carens Clavis is all set to enter the Indian MPV market, and it comes with a long list of features that truly help the Korean MPV stand out from its competitors. The Clavis’ closest competition comes from the Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Rumion, Maruti Ertiga and the Maruti XL6.
In this report, we take a look at the 9 features that the Clavis offers over its rivals. The list includes some creature comforts, safety features and a few niceties that make you go wow! What are they? Let’s find out:
The Clavis offers dual 12.3-inch displays including the touchscreen infotainment system and the digital driver’s display. On the other hand, its rivals offer infotainment that are less than 10 inches in size. Its rivals also do not offer a fully-digital display for the driver. These large displays make the cabin of the Clavis feel more premium and sophisticated.
Surprisingly, the Clavis does not get wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while all its rivals, including the Innova Crysta and Ertiga, get it.
Neither the Ertiga nor the Innova Crysta come with a sunroof, let alone a panoramic unit which the Clavis gets. The panoramic sunroof elevates the vibe inside the cabin and also gives an airy feeling. The crowd-favourite feature will clearly attract buyers towards the Clavis.
None of the Clavis’ rivals come with this safety suite, which can truly be helpful if driving on highways is something you often do. The Clavis gets an enhanced level-2 ADAS with features such as auto emergency braking, lane keep assist and lane departure warning. ADAS also takes care of your driving mistakes and intervenes when required.
Probably the most necessary feature from this list. Save for the XL6, none of the Clavis’ rivals come with a 360-degree camera. Both Innova Crysta and Ertiga are equipped with a reverse parking camera. The 360-degree camera gives the driver a complete view of what’s around the corner thereby making parking and maneuvering through tight spaces a much easier task.
A premium amenity that Kia offers with the Clavis! Ventilated front seats are only offered with the XL6, and other rivals miss out on this feature. The seat ventilation function provides an extra layer of cooling and is an important feature considering the hot climate in the majority of our country. Ventilated seats can be installed from aftermarket sources as well, but they are mere seat covers in most cases and do not look pleasing to the eye or as seamlessly integrated as the company-fitted ones are.
While reverse parking sensors are offered with all modern cars, very few cars come with front parking sensors that make your life easier during parking and in bumper-to-bumper traffic. The Clavis and Innova Crysta come with front parking sensors, but the XL6 and Ertiga miss out on this feature.
The Clavis comes with an electronic parking brake with an auto hold function. This feature adds to the convenience factor and also makes the lower centre console look neater and more premium. The rivals mentioned above get a traditional handbrake lever which looks old-school but gets the job done.
Air purifiers have become the need of the hour, and the Clavis gets this premium feature, which has a very cool-looking display that you can control sitting in the second row. None of the rivals get this feature, and you will have to rely on aftermarket options to get it.
The Clavis gets a one-touch electric tumble feature, which makes entering the third row a very easy task. The Innova Crysta also gets a one-touch tumble feature, but comes with a manual lever.
With these extra 9 features, the Clavis appeals to those who want a feature-rich MPV. While the Clavis easily beats the Crysta in terms of features, it even manages to give a tough fight to the Innova Hycross, which is a much larger and expensive MPV. The feature advantage over its close rivals makes the Clavis the go-to MPV if features matter to you.
