The XUV 7XO marks a fresh chapter for Mahindra’s ICE flagship

Mahindra XUV7XO

Mahindra will launch the facelift of its popular SUV on January 5. But that is not the only headline here because the homegrown carmaker has also renamed its XUV700 as the XUV 7XO, confirming our report from November. The new styling this facelifted SUV will get is expected to include an upgraded cabin and new technology inside. Though the basic underpinnings stay the same, the XUV 7XO seems positioned as a more modern, more premium evolution than the current XUV700.

Mahindra XUV 7XO: Fresh Name, New Identity

This new nomenclature stays in line with the recent re-badging strategy that the brand has taken, most notably seen with the XUV300 which was renamed as the XUV 3XO. This seems a little more than skin-deep, though. It brings in a wider repositioning of the SUV, bringing it into line with Mahindra's newer design philosophy and moving away from the XUV700 brand. New styling, revised interiors, and more features mean the XUV 7XO is positioned as a proper facelift rather than just a mid-cycle refresh.

Mahindra XUV 7XO: Expected Exterior & Design Updates

Early spy images, leaked shots, and now the teaser hint at a substantially revised exterior. The XUV 7XO may get a new front fascia comprising a reworked grille, new LED headlamps, and sharper DRLs. There could also be fresh alloy-wheel designs and cleaner, more sculpted bumper treatment.

Changes at the back are likely to include reworked taillamps inspired from the XEV 9S and a new rear bumper. , all coming togetherfor a more premium and integrated design.

Interior: A More Tech-Focused, Premium Cabin

Inside, the XUV 7XO is expected to bring in a much more modern interior which could include three 12.3-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment screen, and passenger entertainment display. It could also get better quality materials, with new upholstery as well.

Features & Technology: Building on an Already Strong Base

The current XUV700 already has a strong feature list, which includes dual 10.25-inch screens, panoramic sunroof, 6-way powered driver seat, drive modes, and wireless connectivity, to name a few, along with one of the most advanced Level-2 ADAS packages in the segment. But with the XUV 7XO, it looks like Mahindra will be taking it to the next level.

Besides a new tri-screen layout from siblings like the XEV 9S and XEV 9e, the facelift could introduce a redesigned climate control panel, updated ambient lighting, and a gear-selector dial on automatic variants. Software, graphics, and the responsiveness of the cabin could also see an uplift. The Level 2 ADAS suite, 360-degree camera system, all-wheel disc brakes, electronic stability control and 6 airbags could remain unchanged in order to keep the strong safety credentials intact while offering a more modern interface for the XUV 7XO.

What Stays the Same: Engines and Drivetrains

The XUV 7XO is likely to continue with the same set of engines on offer: a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel, and a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol. In its higher tune, the diesel makes 185 PS and 420 Nm with the 6-speed manual, while the automatic ups torque to 450 Nm.

On the other hand, the turbo-petrol churns out 200 PS and 380 Nm, and is hence one of the most powerful engines in this segment. Both these engines come with a choice of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic, depending on the variant chosen. The diesel also offers optional all-wheel drive on some trims, while the petrol remains front-wheel-drive only.

Price Expectations & Segment Rivals

Prices for the Mahindra XUV 7XO are likely to remain in the ballpark of the current range, from around Rs 14 lakh to Rs 26 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the trim and drivetrain. That places it in the company of rivals such as the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Jeep Meridian, vehicles that match the XUV for space, family-friendly packaging, and features.

If Mahindra sticks close to the current price structure while offering a refreshed design and an updated set of features, this may well keep the XUV 7XO as a formidable competitor against these options.

ZigSays…

The XUV 7XO has the makings of far more than a cosmetic facelift. The modernised design, tech-laden cabin, and refreshed identity appear to suggest that Mahindra is ready to reposition its flagship SUV for a new phase. Sensible pricing and good execution could make the 7XO a benchmark once again among three-row family SUVs.

Do you think the rebrand and redesign will be enough to keep the XUV ahead of rivals in 2026? Let us know in the comments.
