Is this the ‘X-Factor’ that Mahindra needs?

Mahindra XUV7XO

With Mahindra’s next launch, the XEV 9S, scheduled for a launch next week, we now have more information on the carmaker’s upcoming XUV700 facelift. Mahindra has reportedly filed a trademark for the XUV 7XO name, tying it in with its latest naming convention for its SUV lineup. Here is what we know so far:

Mahindra XUV 700 Facelift: A New Name

According to documents filed with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mahindra has reportedly registered a trademark for the XUV 7XO name, which could hint at a new name for the facelifted version of the popular XUV 700 SUV, slated to launch in January 2026.

With this change, Mahindra is likely aiming to bring the XUV700 in line with its new nomenclature, which previously saw the XUV 300 being renamed to the XUV 3XO as well upon facelift.

About The Mahindra XUV 700

Launched in 2021, the Mahindra XUV700 has been a smash hit with waiting periods stretching up to more than one year at its peak. The SUV was one of the carmaker’s first SUVs to feature the latest design philosophy. At the front, it gets a large radiator grille with vertical slats, along with unique C-shaped headlamps with DRLs. Towards the side, you get to see muscular haunches on the rear fenders and flush door handles. Towards the rear, it gets triangular taillamps and a faux silver skid plate.

In terms of features, the car is equipped with dual 10.25-inch screens for the touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, drive modes and connected car technology. Safety-wise, it is equipped with a Level 2 ADAS suite, 7 airbags, electronic stability control, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, 360 degree camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Under the hood, it is available with a choice of 2-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options, both of which are available with 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options. It is also equipped with an optional all-wheel drive system.

What’s Expected With The Facelift?

While the XUV 700 is a popular option in the segment already, the facelift is expected to further enhance its appeal. It could get a refreshed design with a new front fascia, updated alloy wheels and reworked taillamps. Inside, it is expected to feature a tri-screen setup with an updated dashboard. In terms of the equipment, it is likely to be equipped with massaging seats, a Dolby Atmos-equipped premium sound system, powered second row ottoman seats and a heads-up display.

Under the hood, it is likely to be powered by the same set of turbo-petrol and diesel engines, although with a minor bump up in performance figures.

Mahindra XUV 7XO: Launch Date, Price And Rivals

While not officially confirmed, Mahindra is likely to launch the XUV 7XO sometime in January 2026.

While the current XUV 700 is priced between Rs 13.66 lakh to Rs 23.71 lakh (ex-showroom), we expect the facelifted XUV 7XO to have a marginal hike and be priced in the range of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).

When launched, the XUV 7XO will go up against the likes of the Tata Safari, Jeep Meridian, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus.

ZigSays…

Mahindra renaming the XUV 700 should not come as a surprise, given that the XUV 300 also underwent the same, not too long ago. We are looking forward to the new facelift, which is likely to be launched early next year and is expected to build upon the strong reputation of the XUV brand.
