What’s more popular than Salman Khan releasing a movie on Eid? Well, it is Mahindra launching or revealing something new on Independence Day. Last year, the Indian automaker introduced the Thar Roxx, and this time, a new SUV platform will be revealed on the 78th Independence Day. The products on the new platform will be manufactured at Mahindra’s new facility in Chakan, near Pune. The same plant will manufacture 1.2 lakh models every year based on the new platform.
According to rumours, the SUV that will be manufactured on the platform will likely be the next-generation Mahindra Bolero, which is expected to arrive in 2026. Reports suggest that the platform could be the New Flexible Architecture (NFA). This platform will be capable of housing multiple different powertrains, including EVs as well.
That being said, the platform might also be used for other upcoming Mahindra cars. Chances are that we could first see a concept vehicle based on the platform, followed by multiple production-spec SUVs.
During the Q4 earnings presentation, Mahindra had also confirmed that 5 new cars will arrive in CY26. The launches include 3 ICE SUVs and 2 new EVs. Last year, the Indian automaker announced that there would be 16 new launches by 2030. Out of the 16 models, the BE 6, XEV 9e and Mahindra Thar Roxx have already been launched.
For all the Thar lovers, Mahindra will be launching the updated version of the Thar three-door this year. Furthermore, EVs like the XUV 4XO and XEV 7e are also up for launch in 2025.
The Thar E and Scorpio N pickup are two exciting SUVs that could be launched in the coming years. The former would be the first electric off-roader in the mass market segment, while the latter could prove to be a capable pickup truck and a more affordable alternative to the Toyota Hilux.
Mahindra’s SUVs like the XUV700, Thar 3-door, Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic are all due for facelifts and Mahindra could soon launch updated versions of these existing models as well.
Mahindra has been very successful in India, consistently churning out new SUVs while updating the current ones to keep them relevant. The Indian marque has dared to challenge segments several times, especially with launches like the Thar Roxx and BE 6. We believe that Mahindra is heading in the right direction, in terms of its product strategy and planning in India. From off-roaders like the Thar Roxx to the futuristic EVs like the XEV 9e, Mahindra’s diverse range of SUVS is commendable.
In the overall car sales, Mahindra currently keeps juggling between the third and fourth position. For the Indian automaker to jump higher in the list, the new and updated models could play a significant part. Mahindra is currently only offering SUVs, and will look to become the go-to brand for SUVs in India.
Chances are that Mahindra could even launch a Creta rival in India, because currently there are no compact SUVs in Mahindra’s stable. The compact SUV space is a very popular one in India, and a well-rounded package with a futuristic design could further help Mahindra grow its presence on our shores.
We are waiting to see what new cars the brand launches, and how the new platform will be utilised. Which Mahindra car is your favourite? Let us know in the comments section.
