Mahindra has launched the 2025 Bolero at a price of Rs 7.99 lakh(ex-showroom). The utilitarian SUV gets small changes to keep it up to date both inside and out. Along with these updates, Mahindra has also introduced a new top-spec B8 variant. Let’s take a look at what has changed, but first here is a look at the detailed variant-wise pricing:

As you can see above, Mahindra has reduced prices by up to Rs 80,000 in light of the recently announced GST reforms.
Externally, the Bolero facelift brings forward minor changes to make the package more appealing. This includes a new Stealth Black colour offered in addition to the existing DSAT Silver, Rocky Beige and Diamond White options. It also gets new 15-inch diamond cut alloys, fog lamps and a revised design for the front grille with Mahindra’s twin-peaks logo to complement the looks.

Aside from these changes, the Bolero retains its utilitarian design theme consistently with a boxy shape and rectangular elements for a simple and functional exterior. It also gets a tailgate-mounted spare wheel for that tough feel.
Continuing with the theme of the exterior, Mahindra has made minimal changes to the interior, focusing on smaller things for a more premium experience. The Bolero facelift now gets a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted audio controls, bottle holders on the doors and USB-Type C charging ports as notable feature additions. It also comes with leatherette upholstery for a more upmarket experience.

Besides these changes, the interior remains identical to the older version with a flat dashboard, semi-digital instrument cluster and manual AC.In terms of safety, the Bolero still gets equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system, rear parking sensors and seatbelt reminders.
Under the hood, the Bolero facelift remains unchanged and gets a single 1.5-litre diesel engine option which is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. Here are the specifications for this powertrain:

In terms of rivals, the utilitarian nature of the Bolero means it doesn’t have any direct rivals and can be considered as a more affordable version to its own sibling, the Bolero Neo. You can read more about the recently-launched Bolero Neo facelift here. Otherwise, it can also be considered as an alternative to other cars like the Renault Triber and Maruti Ertiga as well as sub-4 metre SUVs such as Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon.

We appreciate Mahindra for taking the effort of updating the Bolero but these small upgrades do little to mask the dated feel of the utilitarian SUV. While the old-school charm still remains and the new features do improve its appeal, the crude nature, ancient platform and a basic feature list still makes it feel more basic rather than modern. We also wish Mahindra gave it 6 airbags as standard, considering safety is now becoming a crucial aspect for buyers.
