Latest spy images of the Mahindra Thar 5-Door shows its size alongside the Jeep Wrangler.
Gets bespoke changes to differentiate it from the Thar 3-door.
To feature a sunroof and a larger touchscreen infotainment system.
Powered by the existing 2.2-litre diesel and 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, with possibly more power.
Launch expected sometime in 2024.
Mahindra is extensively testing the 5-door version of the Thar, and this time a test mule was spotted alongside the Jeep Wrangler. It will be offered along with the smaller 3-door Thar and will feature distinct styling elements. Check out the latest spy shots to see how the Thar 5-door sizes up against the Jeep Wrangler.

By looking at these images, we can discern that the Mahindra off-roader seems to be taller and wider than the Wrangler. For context, the Jeep Wrangler is 1848mm tall and 1894mm wide. So we have a fair idea of how tall and wide the new Thar 5-door is.
The latest spy images also showcase the rear, which is similar to the 3-door Thar. That said, it is expected to have a slightly tweaked taillight, all-LED layout, as seen in earlier spy shots.

Previous spy images also provided a glimpse of the interior of the Thar 5-door, which will likely include a larger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and steering wheel from the Mahindra Scorpio N. Earlier spy shots also confirm the presence of a single-pane sunroof. It’s likely to be equipped with dual-zone climate control and a wireless phone charger.

Features such as cruise control, keyless entry, power windows, a multi-info display, and steering-mounted audio controls are expected to be carried forward from the 3-door Thar. In terms of safety, it should come equipped with up to six airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), electronic stability control, rear parking sensors and a camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The Thar 5-door is expected to feature the current 130PS 2.2-litre diesel and 150PS 2-litre turbo-petrol engine options from the smaller SUV, but with possible power upgrades. These engines should be paired with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission options. It should be offered with both rear-wheel and four-wheel-drive variants with a low-range transfer case.

Mahindra will likely launch the Thar 5-door sometime in 2024. It will be priced above the three-door model, which starts from Rs 10.98 lakh (ex-showroom).The Thar 5-door will compete directly with the upcoming Force Gurkha 5-door, while serving as a more spacious alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
