We recently had the thrilling opportunity to witness the Honda Racing India Talent Cup up close at the Madras International Circuit and it was an electrifying experience that got us wondering how to get started as a professional motorcycle racer. Here’s a peek into one of the most exciting paths curated by Honda Racing India.
The journey begins every year when Honda Racing India hosts its Rider Selection Event. Think of this as your golden ticket to the racetrack. Held in select cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, etc, this event is open to young riders eager to show off their skills. The competition is fierce, but that's what makes it thrilling! Riders who impress the judges during the event are selected to be part of Honda’s elite racing program.
To apply, go on Honda Racing India’s website and social media platforms. All the details about dates, locations, and how to register will be posted there. No complex paperwork—just bring your passion, determination, and love for speed!

Journey begins after you have been selected. Honda puts its chosen riders through a rigorous training program where you’ll ride the NSF250R, a racing bike designed for aspiring pros. You will get to learn the art of cornering, braking, and accelerating on a race bike. The NSF250R is no joke though. It gets a 249cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 47PS at 13,000rpm and 28Nm at 10,500rpm. No fancy electronics, in fact, you do not even get a battery as there are no electronics at all! All these weight reductions result in the NSF250R weighing in at just 84kg kerb! This propels the bike to a claimed top-speed of 220kmph.
The training prepares you for the Honda India Talent Cup, where you’ll race against other talented riders under the watchful eyes of experts. If you perform exceptionally well throughout the year, bigger opportunities await you.

Riders who stand out in the Honda India Talent Cup are selected to compete in prestigious international races like the Thai Talent Cup, Asia Talent Cup, and the Asia Road Racing Championship. You will represent India at a global stage and get to compete against other international riders.
Honda Racing India doesn’t just spot your talent; they also sponsor you. If you’re good enough, Honda will cover the costs for you to compete internationally.

Motorsports is an expensive sport to make your career in but, Honda Racing India has it covered. Once you are selected, they provide the bikes (the NSF250R) and cover much of the expenses associated with training, occupation, travel and even international competition.
If you’ve got the passion, the drive, and the skill, becoming a professional racer in India is no longer just a far-fetched dream. Thanks to programs like Honda Racing India’s Rider Selection Event, your racing journey could begin sooner than you think.
