The Japanese marque is working on a 100cc commuter

(Update: Honda has launched the Shine 100 in India. Check out all the details here.)

Honda Motorcycle and Scooters India (HMSI) is reportedly working on a new commuter motorcycle aimed to cater to the Indian 100cc segment, while taking on the might of the Hero Splendor.

In an interview with a publication, HMSI CEO and MD, Mr Atsushi Ogata, revealed that while the motorcycle industry is growing, particularly the 125cc segment, Honda would like to add a 100cc commuter to join the likes of the Honda Shine and SP 125 to cater to the rural masses. We had reported this back in April.

It is a well-known fact that the Hero Splendor has consistently reigned the sales chart, month after month, and hence expect Honda to develop this upcoming commuter to feature a frugal refined heart, along with a plush suspension setup aimed to take on the rural landscapes.

Honda is also expected to price this commuter at an attractive price tag given its focus on the mass market. Honda currently has the CD 110 Dream and Livo as its smallest offerings. Both are priced at Rs 70,315 and Rs 75,002 respectively (ex-showroom Delhi). That said, these are 110cc commuter motorcycles, so the upcoming 100cc Honda bike is likely to undercut them in terms of pricing as well.

Recently, Honda India had also hinted at the launch of three new motorcycles. Here’s what we think they could be. Honda has also revealed a full roadmap of its upcoming launches and initiatives with a prime focus on electrification. Check it out here.
