The Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid has been launched in India at a price of Rs 1,49,990 ex-showroom. The bike comes with the same mild-hybrid system as offered on the recently launched Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid. Along with this, the bike has also got an updated set of features.

Yamaha Chases Mileage With New FZ-X Hybrid details

The Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid continues with the same 149cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing an anaemic 12.4PS and 13.3Nm, but it is now enhanced with a mild-hybrid system. This incorporates a Smart Motor Generator which doubles up as a silent electric starter and also an electric motor, giving the engine a push under acceleration. The system also stops the engine while idling, and brings it back to life with just the pull of the clutch, thus helping in improving mileage.  The mild-hybrid system should help increase the bike’s mileage compared to rivals in the 150cc segment.

Back when we had reviewed the Yamaha FZ-X, we found the bike to be quite underpowered when compared to other bikes in the 150cc segment. In our performance tests, we noticed that the bike was even struggling to keep up with the Bajaj Pulsar NS125 (half a second slower than the NS from 0-60kmph in our tests). So it’s clear that performance isn’t the FZ-X’s forte. What Yamaha seems to have done with the new Hybrid variant is to build on the FZ-X’s strength, which is mileage.

Yamaha Chases Mileage With New FZ-X Hybrid overview

Another major change has been the addition of a new 4.2-inch TFT display, which offers smartphone connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation - a first for the FZ-X. All these goodies should make your commutes easier and economical. That said, Yamaha is charging quite a bit for what at the end of the day is a reasonably cool-looking commuter. At Rs 1.49 lakh, it costs as much as the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 (base variant), which undeniably looks a lot cooler, while offering better performance as its engine is more than twice the FZ-X’s size. If you’re a Yamaha fan who craves performance, there’s good news for you.
