MG M9: Things We Like And Don’t

The MG M9 is MG’s shot at making an all-electric, all-out luxury people carrier. On paper, it ticks all the right boxes: it’s over five metres long, loaded to the gills with features, and can comfortably seat six adults without any knees touching ears.

But, as always, the devil is in the details. Let’s break it down.

Things We Like:

1. Road Presence You Can’t Miss

At 5.2 metres long, the MG M9 owns the road. It has a stately presence that makes even luxury SUVs look twice. The minimalist design, clever use of chrome, waterfall-effect taillights, and a choice of classy colours help it look like it belongs in an embassy convoy.

2. Second Row = Business Class

With seat ventilation, heating, eight massage functions, memory functions, ottomans, and entertainment screens, the second row feels like Emirates First. You even get a control screen on the armrest that can do almost everything, except fly the car :p 

3. Third Row You’d Volunteer To Sit In

This is one of the rare few where the third row isn’t a punishment seat. Recline and slide functions make it genuinely usable for two adults. It’s got proper headroom, good visibility, and even phone slots. Just don’t try to squeeze in a third person.

4. Range That’s Actually Usable

With a 90 kWh battery and real-world range of 400–420 km, the M9 covers most daily and even weekend runs without anxiety. You get all the silence and smoothness of an EV, without constantly eyeing the next charging stop.

Things We Don’t:

1. Plastic, Not Fantastic

While the leatherette, suede, and ambient lighting scream ‘luxury’, the plastics (especially on touch points) feel a step behind. It’s a bit of a buzzkill in an otherwise plush cabin.

2. Too Much Tech In One Screen

The 12.3-inch touchscreen controls everything. Drive modes, regen levels, even seat cooling. It looks great, but try adjusting anything on the move and it’s like playing a video game… while driving.

3. Stiff Ride Quality

Despite its luxury intent, the M9's ride is firm. On smooth roads, it’s sublime, but hit bad patches and you’ll feel the movement, especially at the rear. It doesn’t crash or thud, but there’s always a noticeable shuffle.

Smart Or Fancy?

The MG M9 is thoughtfully loaded with features. You get a crisp 12.3-inch touchscreen that runs most of the show, a camera-based digital IRVM that offers a clear rear view even with heads blocking the back, and a 360-degree camera with blind spot monitor that makes parking this barge a breeze. 

Dual sunroofs add an airy feel to the already spacious cabin, while the 13-speaker JBL sound system makes sure your playlists sound as premium as the interiors look. There’s electric boss mode, seat massagers for both front and rear passengers, and even vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-vehicle charging functions.

The MG M9 nails what it sets out to do: be a proper luxury MPV. It impresses with space, features, and usability, and does so while delivering real-world EV range that isn’t just brochure fantasy.

What holds it back from being perfect is the stiff ride and over-reliance on touchscreen-based controls. If MG can soften up the suspension and bring back some tactile buttons, the M9 could be the best value luxury people-mover out there.

So, should you buy it? Well, if you can look past the stiff-ish ride, the M9 offers a lot of car (and luxury) for the money. MG says the price will be in the Rs 70–75 lakh bracket, that's half a Vellfire for most of the experience.
