We caught up with the company’s CEO, wherein he disclosed plans of launching two electric motorcycles, developed from the ground up specifically for India

British electric mobility startup One Moto entered India by joining hands with Ellysium Automotives, a Hyderabad-based company, and the brand was established in the country in November 2021. We got the opportunity to catch up with Shubhankar Chaudhry, CEO of One Moto India, wherein he revealed some really interesting stuff on the anvil for the Indian market. Here’s what’s coming in hot:

Not one, but two electric motorcycles are on the way:

One Moto currently has three electric scooters: The One Moto Electa: a tastefully done retro e-scooter; the Commuta: a more practical retro e-scooter, and the Byka: a B2B electric scooter. After having dabbled in the electric scooter segment, One Moto has grander plans for the future, particularly the growing electric motorcycle segment.

Chaudhry revealed that the company is working on two models which are being developed from the ground up in India, keeping in mind the conditions here, as well as FAME II compliance. The two products will be electric bikes: one catering to the affordable commuter segment, and another to the premium segment.

What about the price point, range and other details?

Chaudhry opines that the Indian electric motorcycle segment is dominated by two main players: Revolt Motors and Kabira Mobility, and its upcoming affordable e-bike will be targeting offerings from these companies. Speaking about the pricing, Chaudhry said, “If you say the price point, then yes, we will be targeting Revolt and Kabira”. So, expect the EV maker to price the upcoming e-bike at around Rs 1.3 lakh, including FAME II subsidy.

As for the premium electric motorcycle, the One Moto chief says, “The target (for) the range will be at least 200-250km, and it will be a powerful vehicle, so the top speed will be 120-125kmph.” Going by the company’s target specifications, it seems to be the perfect rival to the upcoming Ultraviolette F77, which is scheduled to be launched in mid-2022. It could be priced at around Rs 3 lakh (including FAME II subsidies), and the final price will further go down in select states thanks to their very own EV subsidies.

Chaudhry says the two electric bikes are being developed in India at the moment, and the company has been speaking to various testing agencies, developers, and has also been interacting with several technology development startups on how it can integrate into the ecosystem, as One Moto India is still fairly new to the Indian market.

One Moto has not revealed the timeline for the launches, but expect the company to introduce these bikes in a year or two. The brand has a good presence in Maharashtra, and plans to have at least 20 dealerships in the state by October 2022. Additionally, it also intends to have 10-15 dealers in Kerala up and running by end of year. Its first experience hub opened in Hyderabad, and five more dealerships have been planned within the city limits.

Other cities where the company has presence include Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Mangalore. In total, the company has 23 dealers onboard at the moment, and are primarily focusing only in the southern region at the moment, but the company is working on starting its North India operations, starting with Delhi NCR, soon. We hope One Moto has enough reach by the time it launches its electric motorcycles so that there is no bottleneck between demand and supply.
