Electric vehicles or EVs have grown significantly in number, with many automakers offering the eco-friendly powertrain across lineups. In the mass market segment, automakers like Mahindra and Tata have really stepped up their game and have introduced some really desirable EVs with a lot of range.

Price: Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 22.24 lakh (ex-showroom)
Launched in 2024, the Tata Cuvv EV not only gets a stylish design, but also offers a claimed range of over 500 km. The Curvv EV’s larger 55 kWh battery pack boasts 502 km of claimed range (as per MIDC) which would translate to a real-world range of around 400 km. This figure not only makes it ideal for long city drives, but also makes it a capable EV for inter-city travels. Another Tata SUV, we have the newly launched Harrier EV which is capable both in city driving as well as off the road, thanks to its all-wheel drive system. Even after its almost 400 PS of power, heavy body, and an all-wheel drive setup; it manages to offer a claimed range of up to 622 km. Credit for that impressive number can be given to its massive 75 kWh battery pack. One can expect a real-world range of around 500 km. Price: Rs 18.9 lakh to Rs 26.9 lakh (ex-showroom)
Probably the coolest looking car on this list, has an even cooler and confidence inspiring claimed range. The BE 6 has received great demand since its launch earlier this year, and credit can be given to its well-equipped package and eye-catching design. Offered with 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs, the BE 6 offers a claimed range of over 500 km with both its battery packs. It has a 557 km of claimed range with the smaller one, and an impressive 683 km of range with the larger battery pack. This should reflect a real-world world range of over 450 km with the smaller battery pack and over 525 km with the larger battery.
Price: Rs 21.9 to Rs 30.5 lakh (ex-showroom)
The Mahindra XEV 9e is built on the same INGLO platform as the BE 6, and is in fact in an even greater demand than its smaller sibling. The XEV 9e provides more space inside the cabin and greater dimensions, but offers the same 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery pack options as the BE 6. Price: Rs 24.99 lakh to Rs 33.99 lakh
BYD cars are an entry into the luxury segment, but their entry-level Atto 3 is one such SUV which locks horns with many mass-market EVs as well. The Atto 3 comes with a 50 kWh and 60 kWh battery pack, but it is the larger battery pack which crosses the 500 km mark, with 521 km of range to be precise. The Maruti e Vitara has become the GTA 6 of the Indian auto industry! A never ending discussion of when it will be launched had Maruti fanboys concerned. However, the e Vitara is set for launch in September, and we just hope that it doesn’t get delayed again. What we know for sure is that the e Vitara will come with a 61 kWh battery with its higher variants, and Maruti has revealed that it will offer a claimed range of over 500 km. With EVs offering 400-500 km of real-world range, they become a sensible option to consider even for inter-city travels. The numbers are also better than what you get with a tank full of petrol, and are close to what diesel cars offer.
