And we have gotten our first glimpse of the upcoming SUV’s design, which gives us an insight of what to expect from the next-gen X1

BMW has confirmed the X1 will get an all-electric counterpart by the end of this year. Quite a welcome change as BMW’s current crop of EVs like the iX3, iX, and the upcoming i7 luxury sedan is towards the higher side of the price bracket. The iX1 will be the Bavarian carmaker’s entry-level EV and will rival the Mercedes-EQ EQA and Volvo XC40 Recharge

The iX1 previews the next-gen X1 as it gets completely new design touches. Draw your eyes to the kidney grille, which has not only grown a size larger, but it is more squared off than before. Then there’s the LED headlights, whose traditional DRL signature is now inverted and more sharper. A sharply styled bumper with aggressive air intakes completes the design.

It’s still too early to talk about interiors, but we can confirm that it will get BMW’s i-Drive 8 infotainment system that’s present in cars like the i4 and iX. Apart from that, we can expect the iX1 to get a decent amount of features including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), connected car tech, and a branded sound system to name a few.

Technical specifications are yet to be unraveled, but we suspect the iX1 to get a single- and dual-motor setup. And in terms of range, the BMW’s benchmark is the Mercedes-EQ EQA, which can do around 450km (on the WLTP cycle), depending on the variant you pick.

The iX1 could be on cards for our market considering it could bring down the entry-level price point if you want a BMW EV. Speaking of which, the next all-electric BMW to be launched in India is the i4, expected by the middle of this year.
