Testing of the Mahindra Thar 5-door continues ahead of its expected debut on August 15, 2024. And each and every time spy pics of the extended Thar surfaces online, there is something new to discern. This time around, we have snapped what looks like the middle-spec variant of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door.
By now, different versions of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door have been snapped. Top-end variants were seen sporting dual-tone alloys and LED headlights, while we have also snapped the base variant with steel wheels and halogen headlights.

This time around, the Thar 5-door was seen sporting halogen headlights and monotone alloy rims, leading us to believe that this could be the mid-spec variant. The boxy silhouette remains the same, while like the other test mules, It was seen with LED tail lamps.
Though not clear, one can see that this mid-spec test mule was sporting analogue dials with a multi-info display from the existing Thar 3-door as opposed to the fully digital driver’s display of the top-end version.

We also suspect it will rely on a smaller infotainment screen (probably the 8-inch unit from Scorpio N) as opposed to the 10.25-inch unit of the top model. Other bits the middle variant might miss out on include a sunroof, push button start and cruise control. That said, Mahindra might equip it with standard safety features such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control and rear parking sensors.
Underneath the hood, the Mahindra Thar 5-door is expected to get the 130PS 2.2-litre diesel and 150PS 2-litre turbo-petrol engines from the smaller model, but probably with bumped up power figures. One can expect both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive options as well as manual and automatic transmissions.

The Mahindra Thar 5-door is expected to be priced from around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Force Gurkha 5-door, while being a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
