Looking at the popularity of SUVs, it’s no surprise that when it comes to switching or planning to buy a new vehicle, an SUV would probably be high on the list. And if you are among those planning to do so, we think it might be a good idea to hold off for a little longer. This holds even more if you are planning to buy a model from the compact SUV space.
The reason, you ask? Maruti Suzuki is set to launch two new models by the end of 2025, both positioned in the compact SUV space. Here’s what we know so far.
In their financial results, Maruti Suzuki officially revealed its action plan for the current year and what it has in store for us. The highlight is the launch of the much-awaited e Vitara, the brand’s first electric vehicle. While the details of the second model are still under wraps, it is speculated to be the 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara. Notably, the e Vitara is scheduled to launch in September this year, while the latter is planned for the end of 2025.
Expected Price: Rs 17 lakh to Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom)
Maruti first showcased the e Vitara at the 2025 Auto Expo, and the electric SUV has already started arriving at dealerships ahead of its official launch. It will be sold exclusively through Nexa outlets. The e Vitara sports a muscular stance, complemented by modern styling touches such as sleek LED lighting elements and aero-optimised alloy wheels. Inside, it features a more contemporary cabin layout with a dual-tone interior theme. Key highlights include a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a 10-inch digital driver’s display, a powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera system, and ADAS technology.
The e Vitara will be available with either a 48.8 kWh or a 61.1 kWh battery pack, with the larger one claiming a range of over 500 km. The 48.8 kWh variant will be paired with a 144 PS/192.5 Nm electric motor, while the 61.1 kWh version will come with a 174 PS/192.5 Nm setup. The e Vitara will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, and Mahindra BE 6.
Expected Price: Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom)
Speaking of the 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara, although it is still under speculation, it has already been spotted testing. While detailed information remains undisclosed, the design is expected to feature minor refreshed elements compared to the 5-seater Grand Vitara. Although the interior has not yet been spied, the 3-row Grand Vitara will likely retain a similar layout and will likely carry on a similar feature set as the Grand Vitara. Mechanically, it is expected to offer the same 1.5-litre strong hybrid and mild-hybrid powertrain options as the 5-seater version.
While these two launches are confirmed, we are aware about the platform sharing between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota, hence we may also see the launch of Toyota Urban Cruiser as well as the 7-seater version of the Toyota Hyryder.
The e Vitara and the potential launch of the 7-seater Grand Vitara hold significant importance for Maruti Suzuki. The eVitara will mark the brand’s entry into the EV segment, while the 3-row Grand Vitara will offer greater practicality over the current model. Additionally, the eVitara will be built on a platform designed to support high-capacity batteries and eAxle technology, helping it perform better. With these launches, Maruti Suzuki aims to strengthen its SUV lineup and expand its presence in the compact SUV space.
