Yamaha has launched the MY2020 Tricity 155 scooter in Japan. The 3-wheeled scooter’s steering mechanism is similar to the Yamaha Nikken. Yamaha had unveiled a more powerful Tricity 300 at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. It also sells a smaller Tricity 125 in Japan. For 2020, the Tricity 155 gets just cosmetic updates.

While the Tricity 155’s front end is similar to the Nikken, it is styled differently from both the Nikken and the NMax 155 with which it shares a motor. For 2020, the Tricity 155 gets a new Bluish Gray Solid paint job with blue wheels, blue stitching on the seats, and blue decals on the front mudguards. It also gets two other paint options: White Metallic and Matte Grey Metallic. It features a large windscreen, all-LED lighting, digital instrument console, thumb-operated parking brake, LED-lit underseat storage compartment, and a 12 volt DC charger.

The Tricity 155 gets a 155cc liquid-cooled and fuel-injected single-cylinder motor that delivers 15PS and 14Nm. It gets a CVT gearbox. Yamaha claims a fuel efficiency figure of up to 43.4kmpl. With a 7.2-litre fuel tank, the scooter should be able to offer a range of around 311km.

With two wheels at the front instead of the back like a conventional trike, the Tricity offers better stability at speeds as well as on turns. Its parallelogram link and cantilever suspension setup up front keep both front wheels on the ground while turning. This offers more contact patch and therefore, better grip. It gets dual shock absorbers at the back. The Tricity 155 gets 14-inch front wheels and a 13-inch rear wheel. Braking is via disc brakes on both wheels with a unified braking system and ABS.

While the Yamaha NMax 155 is expected to launch in India this year, the Tricity 155 being a unique concept might take some time to reach here.
